Commenter on Crime > Rapes (per capita) 786 days 11 hours 35 minutes 39 seconds ago

I'm sure this has been said, but in the USA we have commercials, television shows, billboards and hotlines all set up to provide support for raped or abused women. That tends to lead to a large percentage, or at least a larger percentage than a country that DOESN'T do all that, being reported.
So yeah, the USA might have a higher percentage of reported rapes on this table than many other countries, but that's a far cry from the statement that they have more rapes in general. |

i cant belive that In 1603, a Tokugawa shogunate (military dictatorship) ushered in a long period of isolation from foreign influence in order to secure its power. For more than two centuries this policy enabled Japan to enjoy stability and a flowering of its indigenous culture. Following the Treaty of Kanagawa with the US in 1854, Japan opened its ports and began to intensively modernize and industrialize. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Japan became a regional power that was able to defeat the forces of both China and Russia. It occupied Korea, Formosa (Taiwan), and southern Sakhalin Island. In 1931-32 Japan occupied Manchuria, and in 1937 it launched a full-scale invasion of China. Japan attacked US forces in 1941 - triggering America's entry into World War II - and soon occupied much of East and Southeast Asia. After its defeat in World War II, Japan recovered to become an economic power and a staunch ally of the US. While the emperor retains his throne as a symbol of national unity, elected politicians - with heavy input from bureaucrats and business executives - wield actual decisionmaking power. The economy experienced a major slowdown starting in the 1990s following three decades of unprecedented growth, but Japan still remains a major economic power, both in Asia and globally. |

I agree with Lau P and it was the first thing I thought of when someone posted this on facebook. If you do the math, by nation's population, it seems to come out even.
My question is why China and India aren't listed. Is it that they don't keep track of the donation numbers? Because it's absolutely not plausible for either nation not to have had at least a couple thousand donations.
The populations are pretty outstanding and I fail to believe they don't have high donation numbers for the citizens who would probably need the blood, shortage or no shortage. |

Doug I thought the same thing... then I saw the small print.
"Figures for 2003/2004 Per capita figures expressed per 1 million population".
So that would be 68kgs or 150lbs per capita. |

Some of the countries currently protesting in the middle east like Yemen, Egypt etc seem to also be quite high up on the list. |

American women grow up in a bubble of entitlement, reinforced by romcoms and Disney and their unrealistic brand of love. They live in this sort of fantasy world where there is no such thing as compromise, and they are all stunningly attractive. The media makes women actually believe in a sort of Mr Right character who will do everything perfectly, and jump from relationship to relationship, marriage to marriage until nobody wants them anymore. Then they will shake their fists at the sky and wonder how it all went wrong. Don't get frustrated, women, I could write an equally long post about men. |

Not that I'm aware. "Bahamas" is thought to come from the Spanish word baja mar (shallow seas) or The Lucayan (indigenous Indians) word ba-ha-ma (large upper, middle island) |
