I am a 400level post-lingual deaf Law student of one prestigious Federal University in Nigeria.I'll be the third Nigerian deaf lawyer and the very first deaf female lawyer(as the two deaf lawyers before me were both male). A strong human right/disability right advocate, I am pleading that considerations and more opportunities be created for deaf Nigerians to enable many of us be able to travel abroad and contribute our own quota in universal/worldwide development. Most deaf Nigerians usually complain of unhealthy attitude they met at the Embassies whenever they are invited for interview and upon the discovery that they are hearing-impaired.
my appeal is that unhealthy approaches towards the deaf and other disable people be curbed, so that we be able to bring out the very best in us because there is ability in disability.
we have numerous deaf Nigerian elites of distinguished personalities living abroad with honorary titles of OCN,Prof.,Dr., etc. These people has contributed immensely to not only in further developing the country(United States), but also for universal development of mankind and the world at large. We can still produce more. And we yearns for the support and concern of those in the best position to help us. Most importantly,we yearns for the concern of the Embassies in ensuring that any qualified deaf Nigeria who is on the verge of migrating abroad is dully attended to.
Right now, there are hundreds of responsible deaf Nigerians of high intellectuals(some with first degree and even master degree certificates) who are struggling to travel abroad(to US and other states where Disability Act has been legislated upon)either for further studies or for employment purposes.
I pray that special opportunities be created for the deaf and other disable people in this issue to enable us actualize our dreams and to prove our worth to the world.

Scuba diving is bar far the dominant activity on Koh Tao for good reason. Dive sites are close to the island, and you can see some really spectacular marine life. Bull shark sightings at Koh Tao's Chumphon Pinnacles dive site are common, plus we get many whale sharks visiting Koh Tao throughout the year.

These are not accurate, they can't be. In my State alone there is a 15% illiteracy rate as of just a few years ago, that's not even to compound the states around mine. The US does not have a 99% literacy. |
