A lot of the reform spelling is used in the United States, but not in Canada. 'Programme', 'colour', 'cheque', 'favour' as well as a few others listed, are still commonly used. Perhaps it is the British or even French influence. Who knows. |

Guys, you have no idea on the amount of effort that comes into standartizing and collecting the data. I work with data reserach and have to say that this site is incredible for the amount of internationally comparable data it provides for free. Of course, data here is "for reference only". If you want latest figures and pristine accuraccy, then you have to invest your own time and effort and visit all the national statistics webpages. It will take time. Or look up at organizations such as UN, OECD, IMF. In many cases, statistics of the same country are not even strictly comparable between one year and another because of methodology changes. Right, land area is probably the easiest to calculate. But I doubt folks at this site do data revisions or investigate methodology - they publish what they get from their sources. So if you want revisions - I suggest you write directly to CIA World Factbook Staff. The admins here are tasked more with data presentation/IT issues than actual data, and I must say, they do a very good job at it. |
