I was amazed at the high rate of gun death in Thailand, having spent a lot of time there and never hearing much at all about gun violence (or violence in general) while I was there. So I decided to look this up. I can't find the stats you have sourced online, so maybe violence went way down in Thailand.
The most authoritative stats I could find are at the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) and are for 2004.
According to this report, the intentional homicide rate in Thailand in 2004 was between 6.9 and 9.0 people per 100,000. This is for ALL murders, not just gun murders, and even the high estimate is .09 per 1000 as compared to the .31 per 1000 for only gun murders listed above.
I find it hard to believe the murder rate in Thailand in 2000 was significantly more than triple what it was in 2004. |

It seems that even if you fix the numbers in error on this table the point is the same. Nations fail to follow God's general revelation from the Bible to keep personal responsibility, marriage, family, government and nationalism all in check by keeping corruption out of them. Those nations will be removed from history. Nations that heed God's advice are sustained within a four generational cycle so maybe poor people have more going for them than we think. |
