DEFINITION: Number of reported plague cases. The plague is commonly refered to as the bubonic plague or the Black Death, however, these names are slightly misleading. The plague is any disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. The bubonic plauge is one form the infection takes, while the Black Death refers the high number of deaths caused by the plague in 14th century Europe.
