I don't think these figures gives a clear picture of total r and d spending within each country. Alot of r and d spending in the US is connected to the military. The internet was a project funded by the military for example. Also, it doesn't take into account take breaks for r and d. For example, Australia provides tax breaks for r and d, New Zealand doesn't

I am in MUN and will be working on economy issues very soon. I have looked at your site before, but now it makes sense to use it. While there may be some flaws, I am glad that Nationmaster has taken the time to gather all of the needed data and put it all together at one easy to use site. I will use this for the rest of my student career and possibly in employement.
