COMMENTARY

Chile's PIB per capita estimated for 2006: 7.088USD "Real" (12.383USD "PPP") after IMF, and badly distributed: Gini Index 0,57%, even though (for example) in Chile poor persons are nominaly wealthier than Bolivians. But lifes costs are higher.

Chile has the biggest Palestine colony in the world, excluding Arabias.
Although politicaly it remains neutral in any international conflicts.

To see tipical consuption patterns look for "canasta básica" Chile. You'll see for example Chile is one of the biggest Tea consumers worldwide.

I Hope it helps you.

I am not an expert economist, just a businessman. I will answer the questions but not go into depth :

1)Have there been any recent changes in Chile that has had an impact on business relationships?
Lots of optimism make relationships easier and some law changes make relationships harder, such as executive invoicing.

2)Are there any specific problems, reqiurements, or both in Chile associated with costing, standards and regulations, marketing, and infrastructure?
There is the consumer law http://www.sernac.cl/ and the tax office only.

3)What media sources in Chile are available for possible advertising oppertunities?
Aside from the regular ones worldwide, Chile has a lot of street advertising in private cars, busses, road signs, bus stops and not expensive. On TV it's above average exposure.

4)Who is a major retailer in Chile that might distribute a consumer product?
Falabella, Almacenes Paris, Jumbo (cencosud).

5) What rules and laws govern advertising messages in Chile?
It's self regulated. http://www.conar.cl/

6) What are the logistics companies that exist in Chile?
Distribuidora Rabie is the biggest and most well known, but many retailers have their own companies, like D&S that have LTS.

Is there an area on this site or another site to get data statistics on Chile prior to 1950? I understand that they will be scarce....

I'd like info for Chile on -
1. Three products for which it is best known.
2. How large and well educated is its labor force.
3. Something that is manufactured here that is not manufactured elsewhere.
4. Any major innovations.
