This site's info should definitely be corrected. It is not updated, all the information you have on violence stats is old, (before 2002). The rates for criminal activities has lowered down substantially since 2002. For example, there were 40 percent less homicides in 2007 than 2002, and kidnappings for ransom are now 87 percent less. |

You have to be asking yourself why Colombia you sign it and why not. There are more disadvantages than advantages to Colombia in this agreement. While there will be economic growth and an increase in exportations, and a lot of people will be benificiated, Most people wont. For plan Colombia to became effective, Colombia had to agree on some conditions that not necessarily would benefit her. One of them is the free trade agreement. You would say then, that Colombia cant be left behind in this process called globalization, and that closing her frontiers instead of opening them would be a mistake. It is. But because its imposed and not on a mutual agreement you can start thinking why SHOULDNT Colombia sign this agreement. The very fact that you ask why Colombia SHOULD sing it, speaks for itself. |
