I HAVE TRAVELED TO COLOMBIA ALOT RECENTLY AND CAN HONESTLY STATE THAT COLOMBIA IS A HIDDEN GEM AND IN A WAY GOOD THAT NOT EVERYONE TAKES THE TIME TO LOOK INTO THE BEAUTIES AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT THIS COUNTRY HAD TO OFFER. THIS WAY IT STAYS PURE AND NOT RUINED. EVERY COUNTRY HAS IT'S FLAWS BUT THE ONLY RISK IN COLOMBIA IS LOVING IT AND NOT WANTING TO LEAVE. |

well ,I think it's kind of to say that colombia is the most dangerous country in the whole planet!! i mean ,come on!!! there are worse places than colombia like irak ,iran afganistan etc!! all those places have explotions and crime every day!! ,colombia is not like that ,u can come to cali (my city) i feel completely safe in here ,of course u have to be smart!! and know where to go or not ,like in any other big city ,or bogota such a wonderful and modern city with pretty skycrapers and nice hotels ,restaurants , museums etc , or medellin with its pretty metro and nice malls ,all of them have nice places and dangerous places ,not everything in colombia can be so bad , if u keep beliving in stadistics made by people that never have gone to those places u are so lame!!! people come here and is always the same they ask themselves "where's the danger???" of course if u try to find it u can REALLY find it ,but as long as u keep yourself in the safe place u will be just fine!! many americans come here and they just dont wanna leave this place anymore ,u can be really happy in here ,come to colombia ,see it by yourself and then get ur own conlutions u cant define a country just for what a list of "stadistics" say ,everything is relative ,come to colombia and enjoy the paradise on earth :) |

You should get more recent statistics... if you look at the crime rates in Colombia over the last 7 years you will see that murders, kidnappings and overall crime has been drastically reduced. If you want to be considered a serious source of information, you should update your sources more frequently. |

Sorry to say that your website has a 1988 posting date with no statistics at all. It does however explain how the country came to be.
I was looking for crime data for years 2003-2007.

i was 19yrs old when i went to Colombia in 05. i was there for 6mths. I had gone to different states by bus and by plane and nothing bad ever happened. Colombia has become a new country. Its so beautiful.
unless you go there an see how kind the people are, dont judge it to be the worst country on this planet. There is crime in every country just like there is poverty.
The media over exaggerate when they talk about Colombia. Its their job.
I'm Australian and my parents are Colombian and I'm proud to say I love Colombia. |

Stats are all wrong they are 10 years old. I just returned from Colombia after 11 years. what a change from 1998. This will explain PBS:

Some of these statistics are wrong-- because they are from 1998-2000. It is too bad that this website doesn't update more frequently, especially for a country where things are changing so fast. It makes Colombia look like a worse place than it is. |
