I want the history about Arabs how they ruled and how they came with Islam in Egypt, in 7th century |
Spaniel Mcnugget 27th March 2009 |
Eurocentrist the term Middle-East may be, but it is also the term used by Arabic speakers themselves (a Sharq ul Awsat). The term appears to be more a map of the Arab league except Sudan is not included, Iran is and certainly it would be hard to place Israel in the Arab league. At the same time, another division of the term into Arabic speaking countries also neglects Iranian Persian speakers and Israeli Hebrew speakers, not to mention it doesn't include the predominantly Muslim and Arabic speaking Sudan, Chad, Niger, Mali and other West African countries, which are 'accepted' as African. Northern Sudanese identify with Arabs but they are not generally included in a map of the middle-east. However, the map of Africa would look rather strange without Morroco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt. The problem of definition also highlights Libya's differing perspectives - Qadaffi at one point identified strongly with the Arab world and now is able, without contradiction, to identify just as easily with the African world through presidency of the African Union. This is also a very good example of the Arab/African divisions that are integral to politics and economics in the Sahel and West Africa with many Africans preferring to identify with 'Arabs' rather than 'Africans.' Egypt (which is only its English name, Misr in Arabic)should probably come under both headings. |

Egypt and North Africa have always been African. Ever since the growth of the slave trade, europeans and westerners have tried to decrease egypt's association with africa. they want the world to believe egypt is only coincidentally in the african continent. |

As expected, you didn't publish my commentary from yesterday. It seems that only those commentaries that jive with what fits into European Americans tiny little window of normative perspectives gets an ear. too bad for you and your tiny little hearts. |

Surely you covet in your contemplations of an Egyptless Africa. Does the racist mind ever rest? Perhaps we should remove Greece from Europe and place it in Asia, as Europe, georgraphically, does not exist. This question of where Egypt exist or should exist seems to be mostly a question presented by White and Arab men, neither of whom are the original inhabitants of the land or generators of its phenomenal legacy. Egypts Legacy is African, created by African men and women. While you chew on that consider this: Before the 19th century, geographers generally referred to Europe as Christendom. Perhaps a better conversation might be how in the world did what is essentially a peninsula (that is Europe) on the vast Eurasian continent ever come to gain the status of a CONTINENT when in fact its shape, size and location tells us its a peninsula of Asia? When we review Tim, Pat and Gregs questions within the context of white Supremacy they become quite disrespectful to the whole of African history and African people. But, this is likely not a consideration within the minds of supremist. Drop the racism/supremism and stop trying to steal yet another land from people of color. Instead, consider calling Europeans Eurasians and Europe a peninsula, as this is not only a more useful pursuit, but it is also one that may generate truth. |

Egypt should be a part of the Middle East, Libya as well I believe. Most maps I've seen include Egypt, at the very least. Some go as far as to include all of North Africa. |
