Ireland has a small open economy. We export 96% of what we produce. Main industries are pharmacutical, computer technoogly, tourism and agriculture. GDP growth will be 5.5% in ROI this year accord to the Centeral Bank of Ireland. The figures here need a bit of updating.

I moved to Ireland 3 years ago based on above stats like these ,but regionally in County Limerick compared to
London it is like a depressed area.It seems Dublin is unprepared to help out a "slump" in that sector.Consequently it has been disappointing and also the experience in the Irish working-place likewise.we are thinking of moving on due to very poor prospects indeed!
There also doesn't appear to be an equal and fair
distribution of jobs in this country. So it would seem those
considered "non-Irish" are discriminated against.

It is simply wrong to say Ireland is one of the most taxed countries in Europe.

As of 2003, Ireland has the 4th lowest tax in Europe

According to the Forbes 'Tax Misery Index' Ireland has the lowest 'misery' rating after Russia, Georgia, and Cyprus of the European nations.

Ireland has the 4th highest Human Development Index (UN measurement of well-being)

Ireland has the *highest* quality of life according to the Economist

In summary, pretty sweet place to live (as long as you're not being occupied by the Brits).
