Corned beef and cabbage is indeed American food and it is American's, quite often, Irish-American's, who think that it is a traditional Irish dish.
On the other hand it is similar to a trad. Irish dish. Ham and cabbage. Another trad. Irish dish is lamb stew which is often referred to as Irish Stew. Irish people apart from the meat mentioned in a previous post, eat plenty of vegetables especially carrots, peas, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.
Chicken is also very popular.
Typical breakfast in Ireland consists of bread/toast and/or cereal. There is also a fried breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages etc. which we call an Irish Breakfast which is just like an English breakfast except better (biased opinion) with much better sausages as Irish pork sausages, I believe, must contain at least 60% pork.
Foreign food is also very popular with Chinese restaurants almost everywhere and pasta is a very popular dish for young people.
And don't talk to me about baked beans....I miss those babies. |

I'll answer both questions: Irish people eat quite a variety of food stuffs from beef, pork, lamb etc. Corned beef and cabbage is not, I repeat not, a typical meal in Ireland. Housing is usually a three or 4 bedroom attached or semi-detached made mostly of brinks and concrete products. There are not a lot of wooden houses in Ireland. Hope this was of some help. |
