I'm from the united states. My father is Czech, mother Czech and German. People often ask if I'm Italian or French or jewish.
What is the general looks of czechs in Czech. |

Czechs generally have a basic central European look and northern Italians are often closer in looks to central Europeans than they are to the southern Italians. Plus, many Czechs also have darker features, which is an Italian stereotype, so perhaps those reasons explain why Czechs and Italians can look alike. Incidentally, I'm largely of Italian ancestry myself and have been told once or twice that I look Czech or "Slavic." I've also been told that I simply look Italian, so it probably just depends on the person and the people from that group that they've seen who feel that a person looks like a particular ethnicity. For example, if the Czechs one has seen have been mostly darker in coloring, then it's quite reasonable that someone who is Italian might get told that he or she looks Czech. Perceptions like these are all subjective and are largely shaped by personal experiences.
Regarding Gypsies, they are primarily of non-European background. Their distant ancestors emigrated from northern India/Pakistan centuries ago. Although there has been some intermarriage with Europeans since that time, Gypsies generally tend to be noticeably darker than all Europeans, regardless as to whether they live in Scandinavia or Italy. Gypsies are much more numerous in Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic but more so in Romania actually, which explains why some people confuse Gypsies as representing what ethnic Romanians look like, which is false. Romanians are actually of distant Latin origin (hence the name "Romania" means "Land of the Romans") and speak a Romance language. They're partially descended from Roman soldiers and colonists who established themselves in the Balkans during the period of Roman occupation. |
