If you haven't heard any Americans denounce Europe for its lack of subservience, you aren't listening. We should have made sure we could win in Afghanistan first. And we shouldn't violate international laws and then expect the rest of the world to continue to like us. |

To Bavarian - I have not heard any Americans call the German State "Anti-American". There are plenty of nations, and Americans who did not agree with the war in Iraq. |
Bavarian 31st May 2005 |
Americans call the German State "Anti-American" just because it didn't agree with the Iraq War, don't they? Well, believe me, Germany has had enough of war; we don't need young German men being killed in another strange war, which we have nothing to do with. |
Dennis M. 30th May 2005 |
@lessia: Regarding the military policy, Germany is a very strong and integral part of the EU and thus actively supports the war against terrorism. Like most EU countries, it condemned the "preventive" strike in Iraq, because there was no evidence of Iraq's liablility for terrorism (and still not is). Germany's foreign policy is currently quite anti-American and, in commercial aspects, pro-Asian. Germany strongly supports expansion of the EU by new members. It is also a driving force behind the EU's constitution. Most of this has to be seen in context with the currently governing party, the Social Democrats under Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Due to early elections in September, the conservatives will probably get to power and take Germany onto a more pro-American course again. This will not influence Germany's key role in the EU's development and expansion, though. |
lessia 7th May 2005 |
I need info about Germany's latest military and foreign policy, the effect to neighboring countries, military policy, power and response of neighbor countries. |

The Berlin Wall protected East Germans against fascists. Now thanks to Ronald Reagan the world is once again a dangerous place. The Soviet Union is no more and the US is the only superpower left. |

You haven't mentioned Canada's role in the allied forces that overpowered Germany during WW2. Canada did much more than the USA did and many Canadians were killed in the effort. |
