you people seriously need to update the maps on India. Part of Kashmir that's actually been occupied by Pakistan is still considered by India as its own territory.

The international viewpoint on this is not justified since the border dispute is still an area where talks are going on.

Bharat upto the age of Mahabharat ruled the world.By the downfall of may emperors from around the world which were under Bharat the tradition of respecting parents , respecting teachers , studying sanskrit from Ashtadhayayi(grammar) to The Vedas , keeping semen intact in body from when it is produced till marriage and keeping the vagina non-pierced by girls till marriage , extreme labour to increase intellect and strength of body , following non violence ;dropping the stealing ;characteristic ;remaining completely virgin till marriage ;seeking truth speaking truth ;not relying on help untill extremely necessary ;keeping the body clean ;thinking what we are? why we are and what we should do in our life ;praying to only one god who has created this world(material for big bang was created by whome?) ; daily yoga and yagya all were destroyed gradually. Gradually Bharat declined in all fields . You can see what India is today.

The phantom Aryan Invasion, repeatedly debunked by archaeological, mathematical, geographical, DNA and other scientific evidence,is still used by many Western writers when attempting to tell about India's past. It was an invention of Christian missionary from Germany, Max Mueller, to defile India's history and make Hindus feel inferior. It was a ruse for conversion activities. Today, it is used mainly by bigoted Westerners who prefer to tell a blatant lie, rather than admit to the greatness of the ancient Hindus and their immense contribution to Western civilization, especially in areas of mathematics, geometry, astronomy, algebra, calculus, grammar, and the greatest literary pieces ever composed. Racists people continue to lie about the Vedas being written by some Nordic nomads. The greatest civilizations happened around large rivers--that of the Hindus around the Saraswatee River which dried up around 1900 BC, and its dried bed captured by GPO about 2 decades ago. All evidence discovered by both Indian and Western archaeologist prove that there was never an Aryan invasion. The reason for its continuity in American textbooks is mainly political--to assert superiority, to divide Hindus, and make it easier for missionaries to convert Hindus with their so-called superior religion. Some of the contributors to this forum should study ancient India, and discover how much the Western world gained from India. Don't try to spit on Hindus and on India because you have been swallowing a bunch of lies from the text books written by anti Hindu writers.

Correction. The Aryan Immigration theory is a big cook up. This was made up by British Historians. New research sheds lights that Aryans and Dravidians were aboriginal to India and long inhabited India before any of western influences.

British historians have played with history to make Aryans a race from Middle east to connect them with Biblical stories. No offense to Christians..But the research proves the immigration theory is not right.

You can do a study on Google and this will prove to you with good enough evidence.

I want to see your comments if any.

I have built a 'correct' version of the map of India and have released it in the public domain.

Surprisingly, there does not seem to be any other version of that is editable and created with thin boundaries so it is easy to color fill. Even the one on wikipedia shows India almost like the Chinese version you show here.

Here is my link to the Indian version of India's map. Please spread the word. Thanks.

Mr.foreigner 1,

U've miss understood the word "richest traditions ",it has nothing to do with the wealth of the people.

If u travel from north to south and east to west of India you can write hundreds of books on cultural diversity ,the understanding of climate and its impact on vernacular architecture ,the change in taste/food ,people following various religions staying in single villages ,enjoying each relegious sports & festivals ,participating various socio cultural activities ,full of wild life & natural resources attracting FDIs ,the Bazar (market of each village panchayat) etc. etc. etc. ,I can go on writting ......

Look at the History of Indian Architectue ,each state has got its own style of Architecture starting from vernacular ,Forts ,palaces ,temples ,Mosques to Churches and mudern buildings. Some how all above will define the cultuarl and traditional heritage of the country not the economical condition ,which is improving day by day .

Every country has its own political and socio economical issues ,u can't make those the parameters to measure the status of once heritage and tradition.

India has got ample amount of natural resources ,quality & hard working man power and strong History.
Nothing to worry ,it will beat every body just within a period of 25 yrs.I can bet on that.

Comments for Foreigner 1 (6 April 2006).

1. Corruption in India... lets also talk about O. J. Simpson and Michael Jackson... well call it high level of corruption. What about the credit card companies or the insurance (auto, home, medical) companies how about this big one “the so called medical benefits”

2. Cast system in India... lets talk about racism all over the world. Predigests exist every where.

3. Women discrimination in India… lets talk about India producing a women leader… while the West still struggles to gain confidence in a women leader. India always has had a minority leader while the West still struggles with that too.

4. Brain Drain in India… how about call it as brain circulation… an overflow of intellects helping developed nations.

5. Stolen votes… hasn’t United States one of the leading nations seen that too.

6. Natural disaster in India… did you see how fast people got on their feet after the Tsunami… let’s talk about Katrina in United States… it has been two years and people are still depending on the government.

Think twice before pointing figures at India.

INDIA is highly tolerant country. We accept everyone to do mistake and we are easy on them. Our laws are not as harsh as other developed countries, thats one main reason behind India's all problems.

ISI is main reason behind India terrorism! Innocent Muslims are given bad ideas about the India and they are made as Human Bombs to kills their own brothers & sisters. Sometimes as a Hindu i feel, Muslims are more devotional, but they involve themselves in such cruel act.
Does Kuran says soo?

We HIndus/Muslims/Chirstans/Sikhs/Jains all live as brothers
and only a few maybe 1% are like enemies, its doesnt matter for us.

If Laws and punishment are made more severe, then Im sure we would see a much better India within 10 years!

For People Who talk ill about India, need to understand...
India is 2nd in world population, 17% we have of world's
and we are 7th Position in LandArea! With such huge population, India is 4th Biggest Economy and expected to become Super One Economic Country by 2020! All other countries would be behind INDIA!

2020 may look far! But we are sure to reach soon!!

To begin with- INDIA IS GREAT.How!
1. Years since now societies were being developed in a very very systematic way.
2. India was never a one country in the past, but it was sharing the larger concept of Joint family, where internal exchanges of culture & wars were common.
Among this grew the Indian Society with Love & War going side by side.
3. Arts
& tradition were flourihed. Sages were born. Valor were shown, Life was shoing all its realms. & Nation in part as a whole kept developing & deminishining as the childs play goes.
4. The end product of all these churning was seen in the reminiscence- the benifits reached till date- in a broken & misunderstood & misinterpreted thoughts & action & fragmented socieety- a MIXED BAG of religion, morals, society & culture.
5. In the mean whiles Indian population suffered many territorial & cultural & religious attacks for foreign invaders on unlimited no. of times, leaving a very, limited period of recoupment & flourising.
6. The India we see today is result of all these & many mores like this.
7. But the overall trend is progressive despite all odds. So there is a strong reason to salute our ancestors, forefather, fellow brothers for carrying those little values in our socitey further forward, to build better SOCIETY in t he time to come. So CEERS & DO AS MUCH BETTER THAN THE BAD.

Yes, india is a developing country but the status given to women in this country is still very low and backward.. they cant walk freely on the roads as the women of western countries do.... women here are prohibitted here for every small thing keeping mind about what the society will think over that particular action of the girl.... india has a very very long way to develop.. to develop the country first the minds of the people should develop and women should be given the same respect and status as the men are given.. best of luck india.......CHAK DE INDIA...!!!!!!!!

I am sorry that this statement is incorrect:
"Aryan tribes from the northwest infiltrated onto Indian lands about 1500 B.C.; their merger with the earlier Dravidian inhabitants created the classical Indian culture."

The aryan invasion theory has been proved false..It is proved false biologically too(DNA stuffs)... Aryan means the noble ones and there is no aryan tribes. Max muller, a british agent(german by origin) was wrong... can't you see indian look different ..

Its very very unfortunate that in indian text(schools) this thing is repeated again and again!!.. we are taught the things which britishers have taught..we need to change it!!...... so who ever is the owner of this site plz do some research... plz don't copy paste things!!!..

2nd largest army in the world, 3rd largest air force and the 4th largest navy, India is a military power to be reckoned with. India also boasts of the 2nd largest population, largest democracy, seventh largest country, founding nation of 6 of world's popular religions, and the 10th largest economy with respect to GDP (otherwise the 4th largest economy).

Jammu & Kashmir became a part of India when Pakistan attacked it and the then king decided to join India to save Jammu & Kashmir from Pakistan. After this India sent its military and the first war between India and Pakistan started. Later PM Nehru went to UN and a cease fire was declared and Pakistan got a part of Kashmir now known as POK.

So the rightful owners of Jammu & Kashmir are India since the King of the people of Kashmir willingly annexed his nation into India, but in the interest of peace, Nehru gave part of Kashmir to Pakistan as part of the UN resolution.

YES, We all know india is great country. The only thing which we lack is, we do not look at future India. India was called golden sparrow by british, which is not same as of now. I strongly believe that the future of India lies in controlling population. Population can increase / decrease employment, GDP, litteracy etc.

Democratic India to be 1 INDIA should work together to remove caste based reservation or any other reservation present. Being an Indian i find myself unanswerable to myself why do people differentiate between themselves, while GOD ALL MIGHTY did create us all in flesh & blood.

In fact being Indians we are ourselves feeling proud is not bad but we expect others to praise us.NO doubt India is emerging as a powerfull nation in all aspects and it is mainly due to peace loving nature. I feel God has created humanbeings much above all his creations with a mind to think and also made them to express its feelings. But it is very unfortunate same is not properly utilised in right direction causing so many problems. Corruption, terrorism, low literacy rate, etc are effecting our economy from past three decades – but our ambition are much higher and therefore we have learnt leaving with it as well as fighting with it, instead of just crying. This has resulted in making our economy stronger day by day even in troubled times. We are not a “hare” in economy building but neither are we tortoise – we are “TIGERS”, we study our prey first, then plan well and attack. Time consuming method right! But “PATIENCE” is the biggest asset and weapon.

ISLAM: SAVAGE BARBARIC SATANIC CULT
STARTED BY A MENTALLY-ILL ORPHAN GANGSTER

The websites below with muslim contributors quote the exact chapters and verses in the
Koran which repeatedly tells its followers to loot, terrorize and kill people of other religions (esp.
Christians and Jews) for no reason other than their religion. They also tell you the shocking truth
about the robberies, vicious, violent, gangster life and mental problems of Islam's founder (that
led Aloys Sprenger, a noted historian to conclude that he was "psychopath", which, orphans can
become) as described IN THEIR OWN "RELIGIOUS" TEXTS:

http://www.flex.com/~jai/satyamevajayate/index.html

http://www.prophetofdoom.net/

http://www.bibleprobe.com/mohammed.htm

FABRICATING THE KORAN AND PALMING IT OFF AS 'ALLAH'S WORDS'

Muslim terrorists are brainwashed into suicidal violence by the booze-and-porno heaven
promised in the Koran which they are conned into believing is the "word of Allah". However
many reputed Islamic scholars discovered that Koran, a disogranized text replete with
grammatical errors, childish inconsistencies and obvious falsehoods was actually fabricated 200-
300 years after Mohammad's death by "multiple hands", and is pulp fiction and obviously not the
word of God:

http://www.infidels.org/library/mod...n/multiple.html

A noted Islamic scholar, who compared the modern Koran to the older versions, found
many inconsistencies between versions. In fact, the 72 alleged virgins (hoori) promised to
terrorists in heaven is a mistranslation of 72 raisins (hoor) from older versions, due to misplaced
diatrical marks on these similar sounding words, as reported in the New York Times. See:

http://www.rim.org/muslim/qurancrit.htm

These sites are a must-read to understand the deep, religious roots of Islamic terrorism which
spans over a thousand years, and which has spread and through terror and force and which led to
slaughter of over a billion innocents in the Middle east, Africa, Sind, Kashmir, India, Chechnya,
Indonesia, WTC, Phillippines, etc., many 1000 times more than Hitler or any other tyrant ever in
history. These sites help you understand how the mullahs, Muslim tyrants and children's
textbooks in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have have been conning ordinary Muslims and the world
by covering up the lies and forgeries in the Koran the life and crimes of Islam's founder, and why
giving visas or selling weapons or doing any business with these savages is like digging your
own grave and why the world must unite and eradicate this savage medieval satanic barbaric cult
for mankind to finally live in peace and harmony.

I believe the way you said that Godhra was a natural reaction is so stupid, first there is no evidence that Muslims burnt the bogie. None whatsoever has been found by anybody. However even if it was, does it mean that Hindus can go on a rampage for weeks killing over 10,000 Muslims for less than 100 people who died in a bogie. And when some ignorant Muslim (essentially fools) who kill innocent Hindus (number rather modest 15) somewhere Muslims become people beyond understanding. How stupid.

And enough of this forced conversion stuff... if I were to convert you by force would you become a muslim... in secracy of your house will you tell your children that Islam is a wonderful religion. No, nobody will. Well if that is so there were thousands of times in Indian history wherein the Muslim powere declined in an area in less than a generation or two. What happened if people were forced to convert why did they not go back to their religion??? The forced conversion if an absolutely wonderful myth spread by people who can not resist Islam and its truthfulness, they see their own religion as something ignorant and stupid in front of Islam and hence they concot lies.

Regarding why Kashmir is not on map... because it can not be. It is disputed. Now why is Kashmir in that situation, because Indian Govt. LIED to Kings of pricely states in British India. There are many acses like this but I will tell only two... Nawab of Junagadh had decided to join Pakistan... so what does India do... ATTACK... capture it. Nizam of Hyderbad wanted a Free State... what does India do... ATTACK... capture it. Both Nizam and Nawab were only excercising the right they had, to decide where they want to go. But what did Govt. of India do... ATTACK.. so Afghans did the same before they could loose any more Muslim land to India... so they attacked and captured a good area of Kashmir and gave some to China. Atleast India learnt a lesson if nothing else.

A BIT OF CRITICISM BY A FOREIGNER...
“India is only country in the world which can be said to have one of the richest traditions in the world.”
Sorry, i’ve heard this sort of message a thousand times...there is a trmendous lack of originality!!
41% of world’s pooor people...guess that you don’t care too much about traditions when you have no food or place where to live with dignity. Do you think that a tradition is good only just because of the fact that it is a tradition??? In Spain it is traditional for people to gather to see how a bull is killed?? In Canada thousands of seals are killed every year because one of its traditions is to do so...

Indian traditions are 5000 years old, do you have such old traditions besides Egyptian, Mayan, Chinese cultures. And then Indien is only alive culture for so long, Obviousely it has got lot of varieties and lot more complexities. You like to see bull getting killed, In India we have tradition of elephant fights (you can only imagine 2 more elephants fully drunk destroying everythin in their way) just for fun, tradition of bull, goats and human sacrifice before wars, but I guess it is no more feasible to follow it just for sake of tradition. India has wars for past 3000 years which are equally or devasting and cruel as western wars(if you care to see details). More longer culture servives more mature it gets.

“Indian is the biggest democracy in the world”...sorry but i don’t see any credit to that,...or do you think you are a better country for having a democracy of 1000 million people instead of 5 miilion people. Is indian democracy better that norwegian or dutch? What’s more, do you really think you’re living in a real democracy?? A country in which politicians change the party they belong to every week?? A country where the votes of the poor people are bought?

Which country has survived with so much differences as having more than 20 langugaes, more than 10 cultures. India alone has more than 5 languages which are spoken by so many people as is not the population of most of the countries.

Indian traditions and cultures in punjabi, bengali, marathi and tamil are as different as english, french, chinese and arabic. (all have different kingdoms and history, different language and scripts, different food, different gods and differnt lifestyle). These are only 4 of possible 10+ major cultures.

If Indian democracy is not successful then how do all of them agree on scintific and economic developments which has frightened westerns so much that they do not want to compete with indians now. hey hey hey.....

“INDIA IS THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD SIMPLY COZ ITS A LAND WHERE THERE IS NO CULUTURE DIVIDES HINDUS AND MUSLIMS LIVE IN PEACE”...guess that the thousands of killings during the partition just because of religious differences is a tale by some boring authors..and guess the gujarat conflicts did not take place...it was another creation of the press...and i could give many other examples...but you all know them...

Gujurat conflict is natural reaction, Howsoever mature the Hindu culture is, Limit is Limit. When hindus are killed in Godhra and reaction is gujarat killings; What US does in Iraq after september 11 is same (you do not attack entire country for the non sense of single group calle al - XYZ !!! ). Difference is what you are fighting is for oil and against terror clearly identified as target whereas Hindus are fighting 1000 year old war still today.

...corruption of officials at all levels, unefficient judicial system, growth that leads to increasing inequality, humilliating attitute towards poor people by the rest of indians (i’ve lived in several parts of India and this is one of the things that impressed me most), child labour, brain drain, discrimination against women...

corruption, racism, inefficiency is everywhere; some countries take resources of other countries (like oil from iraq and africa ) and afford to ignore it. whereas some countries get affected immediately like india due to lack of resources.

India has many fantastic things (you’ve mentioned many of them and i agree with you), but the problems are not going to dissapear only if you hide them or if you only speak the positive things.

We are trying to remove wrong impressions, because wrong start is half success undone. We agree we have problems in basic infrasturcture and poverty. We have somewhat solved problem of education and result everyone knows. We are trying hard to solve other problems.

“If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. You may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.” (Abraham Lincoln)

You can Write False History, Currupt the Facts, Create wrong impression against a community or country ( british policy for demoralising and supressing apposition )

But you can not change the scientic results or mathematical facts. Fact is Indians are equally talented and capable, harder you try to press harder it will bounce and hit back.

Why do websites persist with the Aryan invasion theory when the latest genetic evidence shows that the whole of India is practically the same genetically and there is no evidence of Aryan or Dravidian? The entire Dravidian thing was postulated by Max Mueller, a christian evangelist who used the Aryan invasion theory as a bandwagon to "sell" the idea that all religions came to India from external sources and hence the newer the better (Evangelical christianity vs primitive hinduism).
As regards Pakistan- it is a citadel of terrorism and violence. The sooner it is dealt with, the better.

To Foreigner1

Every country of the world have some positve & negative things to mention.

It is sad that you have seen the other side most. I would also agree to it to some extent.

The good thing is that the today's youth has started to understand the situation and improve the things but offcourse it would be going to take time.

On a postive side, I can foresee a better future of India in coming years.

Why this confusion on Aryans and Dravidian and so on.. Let me tell u what I found after days of wandering for a satisfactory answer. Aryans are the very first race rather first humans who inhabited mother earth, (mind you there was one piece of land only at that time). Gradually, a series of events took place and people had to spread, and they developed on the basis of the suitability of there new locations. Aryans who stayed on or near the Himalayas, were favored the most naturally, and they developed the most. That gives a very old and glorious history to India, and some other countries who were near by and a not so great or traceable history to others like America etc..Thus, in a very raw way we can say that Aryans are like the earthlings and then Asians, Europeans Africans etc are its sub-classifications. Also there is another way of describing things but I can not type all that here...hope it helps some of you or gives a new way to think on this issue to others....plz debate this topic with an open mind....

People are often under-rated because of their color, caste, nationality or religion. Over 100 of the world's best companies have set up R&D facilities in India in recent years. Part of India’s telecom infrastructure provides the largest bandwidth capacity in the world, with well over 8.5 Terabits (8.5Tbs) per second. With more than 250 universities, 1,500 research institutions and 10,428 higher-education institutes, India produces 200,000 engineering graduates, 300,000 technically trained and 2 million other graduates every year. The Indian Institute of Technology is among the top three universities from which McKinsey & Company, the world's biggest consulting firm, hires most. There are a number of Indians such as Sabeer Bhatia who founded Hotmail, Rajat Gupta CEO of McKinsey and Indra Nooyi President and CFO of Pepsi Cola, leading global businesses. Then statistics show: 38% of doctors, 12% of scientists, 36% of NASA scientists are Indians. India invented the numerical system commonly used, and the zero was invented by Indian mathematician Aryabhatta, who was also the first to explain spherical shape, size ,diameter, rotation and correct speed of Earth in 499 AD. The place value system, the decimal system was developed in India in 100 BC. The World's first university (offering 60 subjects) was established in Takshila in 700 BC. It is also the only society in the world which has never known slavery. India never invaded any country in her last 10,000 years of history. It was the richest country on Earth till it the British took over.

mr.deshbhakt i agree with your argument that aryans didn't come from anywhere.they are the hindus of india.the foreiners foolishly want to claim the civilisation as their own.the old hindu texts tell the hindua(aryans)belong to india.no foreigner is related to aryan(hindu).because aryan(hindus)followed the caste system very strictly and so there's no chance of interracial or intercaste marriages.the word "aryan" is derived from sanskrit word "arya" which is used to address a person and its not the name of any race.the language sanskrit is not at all related to anyother foreign language.as the ancient indians did trade with greece and some other countries, some terms might have entered other languages.sanskrit is purely indian.

1. India has been gradually progressing upward since independence in 1947-58 years ago..
2. there needs to be improvement in thinking process of us all and politicians in India that we have to continue to built this great nation greater.
3.politicians are unable to care for poor masses- they have to otherwise poor becomes poorer and richer becomes richer-how do we do that-difficult indeed but we have to get best ideas from best people and enrich the country-eg healthcare for all from Britain and Canada....
4.bribery is rampany causing losses to revenues due to which moneys can be used for public projects.....
5. it is heartening that many many nri are trying to enrich India by opening hospitals, colleges, clinics,nh,hostel, tech related project to India
6. lets work together and help to enrich India by small and large contributions each can make towards India slowly or swiftly...

Here is a great article to remind you why you should be PROUD TO BE INDIAN.

I remember in March 1993, when the skyline of Bombay was almost blown off with a series of 12 simultaneous bomb blasts. Bombs went off at the Bombay Stock Exchange building, Air India building, Majid Bander, a bus near Passport Office, a building near Poonam Chambers, Plaza cinema hall at Dadar, Centaur Hotel Juhu and Sea Rock Hotel at Bandra... to name a few.

Thousands lost their lives, thousand others were wounded and the poor became poorer still. We all knew who had done it but were asked by the 'powerful' nations to refrain ourselves and not come to conclusions so fast -to rise above the situation and carry on the teachings of our great leaders of the past like Gandhi. And so, terrorist likes Dawood and Tiger Memon were allowed to escape to Pakistan and flourish. The world carried on and no one bothered.

And yet, the U.S, a month after the attacks, is bombing a primitive country and a maligned people to rubble... coolly dismissing civilian deaths as "part of the process". Of course, other nations, in anticipation of future financial support, will wag their tail in any direction the U.S wants.

A couple of years ago Pakistan once again was at war with us. The Kargil War will be remembered for many years by those Indians who lived with the fear of not knowing what will happen next. Horror stories of any war are exactly what it says it is... horrifying! Once again we had great countries like the US telling us to work for peace and that quick fix solutions or an eye for an eye is not the right answer.

When documents were produced stating that France continues to sell arms to Pakistan, no embargo, no sanctions but "good advice' was given. We were reminded that we were the world's largest Democracy and hence should be the big sister to a nation who in fact is a day older than us!

December 1999, Christmas time, the whole world was celebrating the end of the century and the beginning to a new millennium, but many Indians were watching the news on television for any news on those near and dear ones who were hijacked and suffering in the "cold' land of Kandahar. No help from any nation.... The world has no solutions for India! India once again fends for herself.> She cries out to put a stop to terrorism that is rampantly increasing in neighboring Pakistan but what did the great nations profess... show them the other cheek like Jesus Christ told us to do! When, out of desperation, India carried out the Pokhran II nuclear test; the whole world condemned us, US sanctions were the first to be implemented. Pakistan was given as much support as required. India was firmly told to cool down!

India has time and again spoken up for terrorism. The same country which has for centuries been far ahead of the western world in its way of thinking.... Almost like a mother who bears all the sufferings and yet is the first to forget and forgive.... Isn't it ironical that the big bully who did not think twice before the Pearl Harbor bombing, raced to wipe out Vietnam, Nagasaki, Hiroshima eagerly instigated the Palestinians and time and again reminded their next generation that they should fight for justice, turns face about when it comes to their country? America, the country who finds it difficult to swallow the same bitter pill, the DEVELOPED NATION who had no clue of what was going to happen to them on a Tuesday morning, who had no inkling of events to unfold... the same country who has all along just given us lip service got full support from India in its time of need, a country who has helped the US grow by letting the cream de la cream work in their country... India stood by a nation in its time of need. India, you are truly a great country.

I am proud to be an Indian. Are You?

Jai Hind!

I am really thankful to a friend of mine who sent me this mail covering Mr. APJ Abdul Kalaam's speech in Hyderabad. A must read for every
Indian.

Quote:

I have three visions for India. In 3000 years of our history people from all over the world have come and invaded us, captured our lands, conquered our minds. From Alexander onwards. The Greeks, the Turks, the Moguls, the Portuguese, the
British, the French, the Dutch, all of them came and looted us, took over what was ours. Yet we have not done this to any other nation. We have not conquered anyone. We have not grabbed their land, their culture, their history and tried to enforce our way of life on them. Why? Because we respect the freedom of others.

That is why my first vision is that of FREEDOM. I believe that India got its first vision of this in 1857, when we started the war of independence. It is this freedom that we must protect and nurture and build on. If we are not free, no one will respect us. My second vision for India is DEVELOPMENT. For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation. We are among top 5 nations of the world in terms of GDP. We have 10 percent growth rate in most areas. Our poverty levels are falling. Our achievements are being globally recognized today. Yet we lack the self-confidence to see ourselves as a developed nation, self-reliant and self-assured. Isn't this incorrect?

I have a THIRD vision. India must stand up to the world. Because I believe that unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. Only strength respects strength. We must be strong not only as a military power but also as an economic power. Both must go hand-in-hand. My good fortune was to have worked with three great minds. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai of the Dept. of space, Professor Satish Dhawan, who succeeded him and Dr. Brahm Prakash, father of nuclear material. I was lucky to have worked with all three of them closely and consider this the great opportunity of my life.

I see four milestones in my career:

ONE: Twenty years I spent in ISRO. I was given the opportunity to be the project director for India's first satellite launch vehicle, SLV3. The one that launched Rohini. These years played a very important role in my life of Scientist.

TWO: After my ISRO years, I joined DRDO and got a chance to be the part of India's missile program. It was my second bliss when Agni met its mission requirements in 1994.

THREE: The Dept. of Atomic Energy and DRDO had this tremendous partnership in the recent nuclear tests, on May 11 and 13. This was the third bliss. The joy of participating with my team in these nuclear tests and proving to the world that India can make it, that we are no longer a developing nation but one of them. It made me feel very proud as an Indian. The fact that we have now developed for Agni a re-entry structure, for which we have developed this new material. A Very light material called carbon-carbon.

FOUR: One day an orthopaedic surgeon from Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences visited my laboratory. He lifted the material and found it so light that he took me to his hospital and showed me his patients. There were these little girls and boys with heavy metallic callipers weighing over three Kg. each, dragging their feet around. He said to me: Please remove the pain of my patients.

in three weeks, we made these Floor reaction Orthosis 300 gram callipers and took them to the orthopaedic centre. The children didn't believe their eyes. From dragging around a three kg. load
on their legs, they could now move around! Their parents had tears in their eyes. That was my fourth bliss!

Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why? We are the first in milk production. We are number one in Remote sensing satellites. We are the second largest producer of wheat. We are the second largest producer of rice. Look at Dr. Sudarshan, he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert land into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news. In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things?

We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance?

I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is:

She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim.

India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.
Allow me to come back with vengeance. Got 10 minutes for your country? YOU say that our government is inefficient. YOU say that our laws are too old. YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage. YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke, the airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. YOU say, say and say.

What do YOU do about it? Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name - YOURS. Give him a face - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores.

YOU are as proud of their Underground Links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM.
YOU comeback to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity. In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah. YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, "see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else."

YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 kmph) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, "Jaanta hai sala main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so. Take your two bucks and get lost." YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand. Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own.

You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country why cannot you be the same here in India. Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay Mr.Tinaikar had a point to make. "Rich people's dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place," he said. "And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?" He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the
railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms. We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to top pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse?

"It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry." So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government.

But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand. Or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system.

When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf.

When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

British standards are products to be sold in Britain, ISI is for products to be sold in India. in current scenario, BS standards are important for companies who get business from British firms. The employers look for people who have knowledge in BS as that is a plus point for them to sell their services to British client. It is a business reality. if you are doing global business you have to have global mind-set. It is not about feeling proud or feeling bad about. knowing a standard. it is about how we fare in global scenario, as how India fares in future compared to other countries, how our culture fares compared to other countries etc...

As a fellow Indian , I was always proud of our rich culture, heritage and traditions ... But I guess its time to get some facts right and truly face up to reality .. What culture are we talking about ..if people here dont have the basic civic sense, women are not respected and our tradition says that standing is queues is preposterous.
At least in Western countries, they are still proud of their country and dont take every opportunity to defile it, by littering on the road. Its time we dont rest of past glories and make a stand to make a difference , however small , for the county we love -INDIA !!!

Talk less about India after 1947 and at present we observe in India full of corruption, honest and true speaking persons no place in present day life, politicians talk cock and bull stories and give street lectures regarding inter state river connections and spend cores of public funds whereas in actual place we saw where heavy rains, water enter the sea and not nearby State(s) starving for water - money has no value here but might is right is taking place and gondas everywhere - Oh God where people worship you sincere, you have to open your eyes towards them - see India flourish as shown in some TV cartoons and songs in Radios etc but do not allow perish still for the sake of present children who have to lead good and peaceful life in years to come.

I am so surprised to hear about Aryans in India. To me Indians look more like the Blacks of Africa than the Aryans, About 99% of Indians are Dravidian, if they speak Indo-European languages that does not make them Aryans. The real Aryans are the people of IRAN, AFGHANISTAN, AND PAKISTAN, who have almost no Dravidian or African blood in them.

I think India economic retardation is mainly due to its name of world's largest democracy.India's population should be used in a profitable manner.Taxes for children and allowances for small families should be imposed. All CMs PMs and ministers should be IAS officers for efficient planning.....

Please check your data before putting it onto your site. According to the latest archeological evidence, there was no Aryan invasion of India in 1500 BC. There is no racial connotation for the word Aryan. Aryan comes from the Sanskrit word 'Arya', which means noble. The Vedic period, i.e. the foundation of "classical Indian culture" began around 6500 BC and not in 1500 BC. The main religion of India is Hinduism, nevertheless India is a secular and free country. Please make sure you correct these mistakes. Many thanks.

To all but especially Binyamin Christy ;it was totally ignorant for you to say and overwhelmingly disappointing and frustrating for me to hear that Hinduism is based on Casteism and this is the root of every problem in India. Hinduism is not based on caste system. Casteism was a phenomenon that originated and was forced upon Indians in the medieval period by a few blasphemous ,self proclaimed religious leaders who were intent on gaining power and money. It was helped along during the British rule. It is not a part of Hinduism which originated thousands of years ago .A religion that preaches equality, love, sympathy and so on. To say that it preaches discrimination is the worst joke of all time. Neither is casteism too profound in the Indian society today.
And let me remind you that it was the European-Roman Catholics that invaded and colonized the rest of the world and throwed atrocities at the people in the name of 'civilizing the barbarians'. It was intended to obtain the religious objective of 'spreading Christianity' which of course is an open secret and SURELY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Going by what your ancestors did and what people like you are doing now, makes one believe that your religion teaches to invade culturally, socially and economically those who are not Christians. THOUGH I DID NOT WANT TO SAY IT But, it makes you and your religion look silly. ANOTHER THING I DID NOT WANT TO SAY BECAUSE IT MAKES ME LIKE YOU, IS THAT Hinduism is the greatest, most noble and the most complete system of ideological, religious and philosophical thoughts.

Please display this. It is a matter of national respect.

Moreover same small gunda party ruling many parts....no use of police at all because that part goes as that gundas want........

Pollution........why don't every citizen believe in keeping india clean........i want all to support clean india....pass most of the citizen to pass message of clean india

we want clean and peaceful india.......its true we are largest democracy in world.......but still our standard of living is same .....poor is getting more poor and reach is getting more rich....our main part thats agriculture is still being ignored......and ha..agriculture contribute more than 50% of GDP and more than 50% of indian population depend on that.....

For all of you people who say (ingnorantly of course!) that you people respect the resolutions of UNO, i think you people should become avid readers of factual information and not fictitious infmortation. Ever since the UNO's resolution on the Kashmir issue in 1948, which stated that the People of Kashmir should be given a right to self determine and that a referrendem should be carried out. Well the referrendum has never been carried out and the Kashmiri people have never been given the right to self determine. Infact they have been continually and systematically denied their right, and therefore peace has never been established.

And as for those who say that kashmir is/was part of india i think you should people also start reading history. Because Ignorance breeds prejudice. Had it not been for Nehru sleeping with Lord Mountbatten's wife, Kashmir, Junagarh and Mawader would have been parts of Pakistan and not india. And also Had the division been carried according to Lord Radcliffe's Division plan then we would have had some more of the Muslim majority areas like hyderabad, junagarh, mawader, kashmir, ferozpur.

So what India is today is not because of legitimate division but because of Nehru's adulterous stunts. and by the way the first primie minister of your country died of Syphlus - a sexually transmitted disease... Needless to say of the morality of the indian establishment...

In response to Roo:

ISO stands for International Standards Organization.
This org evaluates a companies performance and then issues certifications if the company is matching certain standards. Certifications like ISO 9000 etc means that the company completes those norms and matches international standards. You can find more info on ISO by visint related sites and I suggest google will be the best tool for this (As everybosy knows :-))

Few reasons why India has lowest no. of ISO certified cos:
1. Less awareness about ISO.
2. Since smaller Indian cos mostly manufacture / provide service only to Induan ppl and major Indian companies (when India was a closed economy), ppl were not aware/not intrested in international standards.
3. The situation is of course, changing after globalization in 90's and as India is becoming IT hub of the world, many of the companies are going for International standards. In fact knowing about standards procedures for scerts like BS7799, BS14000, 6 sigma etc is a hot point in ur resume if u r in India :-)

WE could have been even better, if we have unity.
WE are divided among muslims, chrsitians, buddhists, hindus, among south indians and north indians, hindi, tamil or gujrati's...
Our poor neigbours like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh are taking opportunity of this...
They are migrating from their country to ours in rapid numbers...what is our gvt doing...they have the right to live in our country, as much as we, Indians have...

India, despite its rich resources, is a country struggling and striving to develop in all ways. In healthcare, it spend very little and is one of the most undernourished countries in the world. Among children under three, 30 percent had fever during the two weeks preceding the National Family Health Survey, 19 percent had diarrhea and another 19 percent had symptoms of Acute Respiratory Infections. This has to be considered as a poor indicator of development.

Dear Raaj, would you have said this if you were born to Muslim parents? Lets not forget that no one is going to benefit from such foolish thoughts. Now even if Islam is such a bad religion, what are you going to do about it? Kill all Muslim's to get rid of it. Come on man, be a good hman being first. Learn to love and care for your brothers and sisters. Keep your faith with you but don't use it to harm others. Can you prove that God exists? You simply can't. And I can't prove that God doesn't exist. So I respect your belief and try to learn more about it. If it is not going to harm anyone I might even accept it as my belief. Lets leave all these to individual choice. We should learn to respect each other. Go and talk to Muslims, not to one but many, not to men but women also, and be open minded when you listen.I'm sure your opinion will change.

See what Sagar says. The existance of Pakistan has put almost all the world in trouble. We have been offering them to resolve ghe matter by bilateral talks and on the contrary they want UNO to interfer in the issue. Never expect friendship from snakes.

Hi Sagar Don't be aggressive we are the biggest democracy in the world and we respect the opinion of everyone. Muslim, christian , Sikh, Budh are also part of India and they have important contribution in the development of India. By pushing them to the wall we will be nowhere in this world and also in our own home. We are proud of our country and its diverse culture.

India spents more on Kashmir than earning from it so we must leave Kasimir as many solders have susided due to fear of mujahidin as my two firedns sucided when they hear that two muslims escaped from a mosque which was surronded by a division army. I want to know how did it happened.

The only reason that Jammu and Kashmir aren't on the Indian map is because Pakistan is a dictatorship who came to this world to cause problems. If you look to every international conflict, how many of them don't include Muslims? Pakistan is just doing its duty as the benefactor of the worst religion in the world, and annoying the crap out of India. For all I know, Osama is probably hiding in Pakistan.

Of course! We respect UN and UNO resulation on Jammu & Kashmir, where JK is a disputed region and the respected citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, will decide and will use their right of self determination and Gandhji also accepted and promised for Kashmiries right of self determination :) we dont need to win land of Kashmir, we should win heart of respected citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. And we should make good relations with Pakistan, after all we were together for 1000 years, why can't webe together again?

Dear Raaj,
We do respect UNO and Kashmiri citizens. It does not mean we should leave our claim on J&K. J&K was a part of India and will be a part of it. All the Hindu Pandits who are the real citizen of J&K are residing as refugees in India. The militants have placed Pakistani citizens in J&K. This is an open truth and you say they will decide to join either India or Pakistan. The Indian claim in Pakistan side should also be shown in map.

It was probably done by automated program, but the article 'Cleveland Indians' doesn't belong on this page.

I think it's because some guy long back made a list of seven wonders and the tradition has been passed down. "
The originator of the list is usually given as Antipater of Sidon, who listed the structures in a poem (around 140 BC)" - http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Seven-Wonders-of-the-World

Why do we normally select only seven wonders of the world?
Why not six or nine?

I’m proud to be an Indian.
Thanks to Nation-Master for giving enormous details of India. Looks India was most wanted place in the world, but now it has lost its richness & reality.

This site has given me real details since from Aryan invasion history, Islamic invasions and Colonial India.
Now i don't to bother to say I’m Hindu / Muslim / Christian, doesn’t matter. Most of them came here and invaded and made their identity.

Jesse Jackson is not the great grandson of Mohandas Gandhi and by the way Jesse Jackson isn't a full-blooded African-American. He has a white grandfather.

Indians have difficulties in getting visas because they are scared of our might. The moment we go there, we start getting all the top jobs and local people become unemployed or are pushed to menial jobs. This is the price we have to pay for being so intelligent and professional?
