Is HINDUISM a religion?I think It is a culture. All gods in hinduism are just the characters in ancient stories or puranas.and there are no historic evidence for those gods.I think it is only a mythology like ancient Rome and Greek..........there is an another fact too, in many parts of India especially in tribal areas ,they have not heard about Krishna or Shiva but they are conciderd as Hindus. This proves that Hinduism is not a religion but just a style of living.(please reply) |

India is fast developing in science & computer, also rich in corruption both in politics and in religion. You never dream this country will fully be Hindu in future. That is not Gandhi taught. All are equal, one in the ONE .
Need to learn what is politics, what is love ,what is solidarity, charity, faithfulness, and compassion.
Respect for others and non violence. |

I feel that religion is faith- and we need it- but we should respect others faith- so that he respects ours. We are Indians first and religion next.
religion should be within us and not force it on others- the creator is for every one- if you believe in God and if you believe that god created everything- they you must understand god created others around you to - and each one of them are his children- you are not the only one.....lol |

Why is it that in the table above, we have to go down to the bottom before the majority religion of India -- Hinduism -- is listed? Why are trivial stats -- 8 Catholic deacons, for example -- and other Christian and Islamic stats shown before the bare statistics for Hinduism? Does not the H of Hinduism come before the I of Islam, if an alphabetical listing is to be attempted? This table seems to be formatted to marginalize the place of Hinduism in India. Most ridiculous and unfortunate, showing bias at worst or thoughtlessness at best, both to be deplored in a factual compendium. |

its good that you have given the statistic of religion, but it is sad that you are egnoring the buddhist population in india. & population of those buddhist who converted into Buddhism with Dr.Ambedakar & mentioned themselves as buddhist in census. |

I don't believe there is any such thing as Hindu fundamentalism. Hindus never go around forcing others to convert to Hinduism. Hinduism teaches toleration and it is in our culture to respect other cultures. However, if others attack the Hindu culture, it is not wrong if we protect ourselves. In Kashmir, Islamic terrorists kill and torture many people. Kashmir is a very backward state, economically. So-called fundamentalist Gujarat is a leading state in India. It leads in infrastructure, growth, and industries. If India is Hindu, it will be better for the economy since Hindus are very business-oriented people.
And speaking of religious fundamentalism, why are Hindus the only ones mentioned? We form 80% of the population and we have a right to the country of our birth. Islamic fundamentalism also exists but it does not originate in India. And the forceful conversion of Hindus to Christianity is fundamentalism as well. |

In this tabulation, only Catholics are shown as Christians in India. What about the other denomination Christians which are much higher in number than the Catholics? the Baptists for example? The calculations seems to be with some errors. |

In India it is mentioned that 81.3% is Hindu. The funny thing is this is the only religion in the world which has NO CLEAR DEFINITION whereas all other religions have.I feel this estimation is not correct. |
