Israel has only two borders -- with Egypt and Jordan. Everything else is ceasefire lines, specifically the 1949 Armistice Lines. A site about geography should clarify this. |

Why don't we account for all Israeli innocent people that had been cowardly killed by Palestinian terrorist suicides. It is very, very difficult for most people to accept reality as it is, especially when Israel is involved, not to mention the Jews. It is basically a 2000 year old "problem" that will NOT be solved any time soon.
When one sees the tremendous progress Israel achieved these last 60 years, including technology development unequaled by any other country (that started or not from zero), except very few, it makes many people anvious and, as a consequence, profoundly hateful.
Israel's presence in a sea of Muslim failed states, all dictatorships that can only make a living out of selling oil to the West, makes Islamists (that are naturally hate inspired) go out of their minds.
As far as Palestinian Arabs are concerned, if they truly want a state of their own, it is high the time they prove that they can survive the old fashioned way - working and producing. Depending on charity from Western countries is NOT an argument for creating an independent state - and never was. |

yeah, the Israeli poverty rate is somewhere around 20%.
the thing with "poverty rates" is that "all is not equal from state to state" (lol).
"Poverty," is defined by individual country's. "Rich" nations, generally will
show higher poverty rates as "poor" countries will generally show lower
poverty rates (or not show them at all).

RE: Israel: they take into account Israelis and Palestinians.
you can see that this makes an impact on unemployment and such.
Israel still has a very high GDP/per capita.
high literacy rate... something that would be at odds with a high poverty rate and so on...

The country was named Israel the last time it was an independent nation. That was before the Romans conquered it. When the Romans kicked out the Jews, they let Philistines settle there and renamed the territory Palestine. Palestine was the territory of one country or another for 2,000 years. Most recently, part of it became the independent modern state of Israel, while the rest was Jordan and part of Egypt. Israel got the West Bank from Jordan and Gaza from Egypt. So when exactly was there and independent state of Palestine?
Regardless of the history, at least now there is a big movement for peace. |

Let's just say that if it is broken down to show a GDP for the Jewish population, it will be *much* higher! :D
And by the way, you are politicly incorrect to not include the West Bank and Gaza Strip as part of the country of Israel. Those pieces of land do belong to Israel - they are not "unowned". Since they have to be classified under one country or another, and there is certainly no longer a country named Palestine, they are indeed part of Israel. :) |

Israel provided millions in tsunami relief. I know Indonesia received a lot of material aid on El Al Cargo flights. Upon receiving news of the deadly disaster in Southeast Asia, Israel's Foreign Ministry set aside $100,000 in aid for each of the countries hit by the tsunami and four top doctors were dispatched to Sri Lanka at the Ministry's request.
B'nai B'rith International Disaster Relief Fund has received over $820,000 from donors for tsunami relief.
