It says the ethnic groups of Maldives are South Indians, Sinhalese and Arabs. I had noticed the same in CIA fact book back in about 2004, and I can see here also reference is made to CIA fact book. I had informed them then that it is not the correct information. Unfortunately it has been like that on CIA fact book still. If you come to Maldives you will not find any Maldivian (except became a citizen by intermarriage, may be not more than 20) who identify themseleves as what is mentioned here. In fact Maldivians have a different language and we call our ethnicity as Dhivehi, and its homogenous. A simple search on internet to verify will make you believe what I am saying. |
