While our web page is visitor oriented, anyone wanting to learn a little more about life in Nicaragua will benefit. Where we don't have the whole story, we provide links to other sources that do. We welcome your web visits. http://casasilasbb.posterous.com/ |

Your background information is via the US/CIA. Where is the evidence the U.S. funded the Contras because of the alleged Nicaraguan funding of the FSLN (El Salvador)? The FSLN existed long before the Nicaraguan Revolution and didn't need outside support. The Reagan administration was determined to over thrown the Nicaraguan government. The US mined Nicaraguan harbors, built Contra camps in Honduras, channelled millions to "anti-government" groups, etc.
There were free elections in 1984 in which the Sandinistas won. The only reason there were free elections since then is because under the Sandinista government Nicaragua's new Constitution called for free elections.
Nicaragua's economy was destroyed by the U.S. backed Aleman government (1996). Aleman has been convicted of more corruption than the series of Somosas - he stold at least $100 million from an impoverished country. The present government isn't much different.
Why only provide the CIA/US view of the world?
Your maps are useful but, as a teacher, I have to provide additional information re: the "facts." |

Nicaragua looks like a good place for tourists. I want to know more about the capital Managua and about all the local cultures of Nicaragua. Also, what is the traditional clothing? |
