Deforestation is not a "current issue" in New Zealand. Twenty-five percent of the land area is covered in forest. The rest was deforested between 1250-1900 AD. There has been very little deforestation since then, and logging of natural forests in New Zealand is currently almost zero. There is, however, ongoing harvesting of planted production forests. This is not an environmental issue.
