I just happen to know Chinese and Taiwanese History, and I think that Taiwan is an Independent country, and should remain that way, China would be only too lucky if Taiwan accepted, to join them they just want Taiwan for a big name because Taiwan is a pretty successful Country. Whereas Taiwan doesn't need China! |

China can be a really crappy place, where you can get thrown in jail just for posting on the internet...
China should join Taiwan! Not the other way around. It would be a huge upgrade for China. |

I have a couple of questions...I am doing a research project for school and can't seem to find these facts:
-number of people per car
-number of people per doctor
-number of people per television
-number of years of compulsory education
-number of internet users
If you can find the answers, please contact me so I can finish my research. E-mail me at robles625@yahoo.com
Thank You |

Taiwan should remain independent and be free. They are doing well now and have a very prosperous economy. Though Taiwan and China are located close to each other they are seperated by the South China Sea which makes it very difficult if they ever wanted to unite.....etc. |
Nicole da Costa (South Africa) 4th May 2006 |
From my point of view, Taiwan is a independent state governed by it's own people. The Taiwanese stand apart from the Chinese, because from what I see, the Taiwanese has many difference form the Chinese.I support what KHF had said, no goverment would target ballistic missile over it's own province, not even if the local goverment starts a rebel, therefore this shows China regards Taiwan as a indepedant country and China plans to invade Taiwan by millitary power.
To reply to Grace, the UN (as evident enough)can only restrict country by blocking nations to trade with the targetted country, and (again) as evidently enough, the UN are not very powerful in collaborating the nations.Certainly the UN didn't accept Taiwan, as I would say because it is too lazy and too tired to make more new nation.(The UN cannot sort out the issues like hunger, famine, dieseas in Africa, what can it do by Asia??)
I also support what ShrimpCracker.com has said, if China decide to unite all chinese together, it should ask the people if they want to do so, since there is a freedom of will and speech for everyone(I don't know if that exsist in China), so it's not up to the PRC goverment to make decision, if a state want to declare it's independance, or has the independance prior to the conflict, then the state is a independent state, a country.
I can see in a sub-conscious sense that China is not willing to get beaten by Taiwan's prosperous economy, and all the better conditions that Taiwan is having, so then China wants to take over the fresh "sheep". What everyone is seeing is that you(China) are just trying to overtake / dominate your own people.China must recognise Taiwan as a independant country and learn from Taiwan's success. |

No offense, but it always seems like the pro-China candidates are always prone to curses or anger first regarding Taiwan's status. This could be because they are taught, tested, and graded alongside with the PRC propaganda. Or it could be something else, but we see the same pattern everywhere as if there were only 1 person posting all this.
The real scare is if you survey 1000 Chinese people, the initial answers are always the same regarding Taiwan. That is frightening because it shows very little individuality, individual thought, and proves the completeness of the PRC's propaganda system. Its when you ask deeper and the reasons they believe so does everything fall apart.
For example, the United Nations does not define a nation. A nation is defined as a land with an independent government, with legitimate rights to the property. According to previous treaties, the government of Taiwan (the Republic of China) governs the land.
The Qing dynasty only had partial control of Taiwan, and it was considered a backwater assignment. Over 100 revolutions or uprisings occurred during the Qing dynasty's 200 year rule over parts of Taiwan. Japan is the only nation to conquer all of Taiwan, and even then, many people of Taiwan showed unrest.
So in the end China has no more right over Taiwan than did the Portuguese, Dutch, or the Japanese. China wasn't even the last to try to conquer Taiwan. They aren't in front or behind the line.
The most common argument is actually, race and nationalism. Nationalism is as ugly as racism because both were not choices, you were born with it. Just like the high amount of racism in Asia against Blacks (no they are mostly very nice people just like everyone else, jeezus), PRC propaganda declares that all Chinese races in any nation must be unified, at any cost. Its extremely similar to when Adolf Hitler said that invasion and the reunification of the Aryan race and those who spoke Germanic languages was so important.
Finally, everyone is concerned about Chinese militarism, they've increased their military budget to terrifying levels, and the PRC action of removing the existence of Koryodang from its textbooks is alarming the Koreans as a pretext for a Chinese invasion. Keep in mind that China has attacked all of its neighbors, sometimes under the guise of "Defensive Attack" and "Defensive Invasion". Propaganda ahoy! |

Are you sure the "chinese history" you refer to is correct?
As I know, there are more evidences support that all "chinese history" textbooks published in China and most textbooks published in Taiwan are telling lies to "educate" people to believe these 2 countries are belong to China.
Give you 2 suggestions:
1. You should try to read something written by historians from other countries.
2. You should understand what constitutes a country. As I know, Taiwanese people never pay taxes to PRC government. As I know, Taiwan government issues passports to his people and issues visitor's/business visa to people from other countries. That is the truth.
3. Taiwan is a democratic country, and PRC is a communist country. There is no "one" country in the world that has both democracy and communism. That is the truth. |

Bullshit, anyone who don't know about Chinese history, plz shut up, Taiwan and Mainland China, are also China.
Just like how can you say Northern Ireland is not a part of UK ?
Taiwan is a part of China, mailand china is a part of China, that's the truth, |
Grima 13th December 2005 |
China is a backward and poverty-stricken country whose government attempts to brainwash its people with political dogma while censoring all other sources of information. You mainlands ought to reconsider why you want to see your own corrupt and self-serving government take over Taiwan and destroy the only free and democratic CHINESE civilization in the world. |

As in November 2005, 3 Million tourists have visited Taiwan. |
Grace 17th November 2005 |
even UN doesn't admit Taiwan as a country. and I also any country in the centre of internal political stage dare say that, either(include USA most powerful country)
I doubt whether you just make a mistake or you really mean |
Independence! 17th November 2005 |
Taiwan is essentially independent. There is no need for recognization from other nations, including China, in order for that to be a reality. The thought, ideals, and way of life in Taiwan are distinctly different from China. We are ruled democratically, unlike the pathetic goverment of mainland China. . . We are a separate people, no matter how China feels about it. |
Babuza 16th November 2005 |
Taiwan's status quo is a state, just the same as I am a man.
It has all the necessary elements of being a country, i.e., territory, people, government, and military; just as I have head, eyes, trunk, limbs, and a working brain. You can not deny it, just as you can not deny my existence.
If Taiwan is part of China, you should go to Beijing for a passport to visit Taiwan. And Taiwanese should pay taxes and perform other duties under the PRC's Constitution.
Is this a reality?
The reality is Taiwan can sign treaties with other states, promulgate it's own laws, issue it's own paper money...
The reality is Taiwan is an independent state pending to be recognized internationally.
International recognition per se is NOT a prerequisite of being existence as a state! |
no, you are wrong 7th November 2005 |
Taiwan belongs to China |
Eric 20th October 2005 |
Hi Chrissie,
There is currently an ambiguity to Taiwan's political status. The majority of the world does not consider Taiwan as an independent country, however this is likely from pressures from China. Taiwan had a seat in the UN until it was forced out after China's entry. China has since prevent Taiwan's re-entry to UN as it consider Taiwan as one of its provinces. Taiwan has a higher GPI than China (~14,000 USD) while China sits in approximately 4000 USD. Taiwan invested more than 50bn USD in China and has contributed significantly to China's rapid economic bloom.
Sharen,
There are quite a few maps that labelled the map of Taiwan as 'Taiwan'. Just recently, Google Map has removed 'The Province of People's Republic of China' from the map of Taiwan. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4356276.stm |
Sharen 9th September 2005 |
Is there a labelled physical map of Taiwan here? If not, do you know any good links for this? |
