@ Megan(Baltimore) You're life can change can change any moment. One moment you could be living the good life, next you could be on the streets begging for money. Now people who have been MOST affected by whats goign on in America have few choices as to what to buy for dinner so they go for the easy and fast way-McDonald's,Burker King, etc! ALot of people have to get fast foods because their money is against them.

The United States has such a diverse population that these average statistics are very misleading. Most of the other countries are nearly a single race. Breakdowns by race for the various countries would be very informative.

For example life expectancy for the average population in the UK is higher than the average in the US. However when comparing only the white population the life expectancy is nearly the same for the two countries.

most of this is a factor to why most people are obese and if you are really trying to sue a fast food restuarant for something you did to yourself then why even bother its your fault that you dont exercise after eating an unhealthy meal most of us Americans know that after eating an big meal let it settle for an hour and then comes the exercise so before you even think about sueing take this advice an put it to use. we are Americas prized possesions and all we need to do is protect and serve as we would do for our family sake. Most of us dont know that keep doing what we are doing now would cause the world to really come to its end all the fossil feuls that we use make the o-zone just useless its straight up pollutes and if we dont find a way to stop this from happening then we minus well give up for the future of the world and human race. The faster we come up with an alternative energy the better we survive and use less fossil fuels to support us like who knows what would happen if we would used all the fossil fuels. The quicker we come up with a alternative energy like solar powered houses or let the solar powered cars come into action they had them out then they decided to take them out due to less business do they understand that solar powered cars can save use and our future. just tyake this to thought.

By virtue of being an American you do NOT have the 'right' to healthcare, education, Section 8 Housing, Welfare assistance, or any other form of govt. managed systems or program. By attending Harvard Business School do i have accessWhat type of message are we sending if we say that you have to attain good grades to get into college and then do the same to graduate college with a stable job, but for those who do not we will provide welfare assistance, housing assistance, healthcare...you fill in the rest. I believe in helping those who are genuinely experiencing a hardship, regardless of how hard they have worked (i.e. Disasters, Corporations faltering-Enron, Sickness & disease to name a few). I believe that access to AFFORDABLE healthcare is a reasonable request, requiring high standards for education should be the norm [Drop this failed 'No Child Left Behind Act'], and lastly, Welfare and Section 8 need only be a conduit to "Recovery". Higher taxation of the rich or middle classes will solve nothing; throwing money at our education system has not worked. This is what matters to me...and why i will NEVER vote for Obama.

"Not many. And whose fault is that?" - Ally Clarke

Sadly, in most cases, their own fault. Helping these people should be done in a voluntary manner, not through government force. People want to help. They dislike being made to do so by law.

THAT MAY BE TRUE BUT THEY ARE USED TO THAT WAY OF LIVING. WHAT ABOUT KIDS THAT ARE BORN TO HOMLESS PEOPEL TO THAY HAVE A CHOICE THEY GROW UP POOR AND THAT IS ALL THEY KNOW SO THEY LIVE WHAT THEY KNOW MOST AMERICANS DO THAT.

Sorry, Scott, it's false that EVERY homeless person in America is homeless by choice. Your point is valid about those that choose not have a "normal" life... but that further reinforces the sad situation. If we can't educate people about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation and we don't provide people an adequate opportunity to seek it out, then we've failed.

How many doctors per 1000 people in the United States?
scott
30th June 2005
You are wrong about sanitation. Homeless people in America are homeless by choice. And that's a HUGE difference! They dont want the normal life.. Don't believe me? Come to NYC on christmas and see for yourself..
Ally Clarke
8th June 2005
Not everybody has access to sanitation in this so very wonderful country. What about those people who wander the streets with nowhere to go, begging for food and spare change? How many of those people have access to sanitation? Can they go and have a bath or a shower whenever they feel like it? How many of them can turn on the taps in their clean homes and have fresh running water? Not many. And whose fault is that?

Are you sure that what you define as deaths from cancer is really the incidence or occurrence of cancer per 100000 population. When I checked your reference although I can get your values for the year 2000,the definition is different.
