Mercy I don't know for how long you have lived abroad but here we live in a very heavy crime zone.

Please come here to Petare where I live and believe me dear; The criminals will have no mercy with you.

If you are at the wrong place at the wrong time, you won't tell the story.

Some areas are more dangerous than others, but in general you are not safe anywhere.

You don't believe me?
I'll be happy to invite you for walk through my neighborhood at night. With due respect: YOU WON'T LIKE WHAT YOU WILL SEE...

The ignorance of people astonishes me. Venezuela IS by far one of the most dangerous countries in the world, ever since Chavez has been president. Yes, the poverty has decreased, but violence has increased. You can't leave your house without the fear of being kiddnapped or killed. Venezuela is the way Rafael describes it and it is very sad because Venezuela is a beautiful country!

Well if you see the sources of this information, you´ll notice they are old 8,022 murders ( 1998-2000 ), Rafael got the right numbers. Mercy, Ana is right, in fact I work in El Nacional and I certify the information, even more, there are a lot, and I mean A LOT of crimes people can´t see or know about, it´s really scary

I live in Caracas. I'm sorry to say that crime in Venezuela is worst than described. There were 19,541 murders in 2009 and only 977 persons were convicted for homicide (5%).

According to several sources in Venezuela there are about 75 murders per 100,000 inhabitants, but in Caracas the rate rises to almost 200!

The fact that we are one of the happiest countries in the world only tells that hope is still stronger than fear. We will endure!

What in the world are you talking about? children and women traffiked and exploited for sexual tourism? I think yiou're confusing Venezuela with Costa Rica or other central american countries where this problem really exists.

I happen to be a Venezuelan woman and by no means Venezuela is the way you describe it. There IS crime, but it is as in any big city in the world, I can dare to say that Italy (where I live) is a much more dangerous country. .
