Of course, had there been no Eden, and that having been a fable shared by an ancient people, there would have been no location, and searching for the actual Eden would have been akin to searching for a unicorn. This story was passed down by word of mouth many generations before it was committed to parchment, and could have originated as many such legends have been created.
Adam was placed in Eden a fully-modern adult, though there is much evidence of pre-human homonids having roamed the earth a million years before homo sapiens ever appeared. Prior to that there were hundreds of millions of years of other animals before any human-looking creatures ever existed.
One must either consider the Garden of Eden story a fable, or find ways to fit it into other known realities. The idea that it actually existed in heaven escapes these problems, though it does not explain how that fits in with knowledge of prehistoric creatures having evolved to later forms, including homo sapiens.
One could also reason that the creation story condensed into a few words a process that took much longer, therefore being a metaphor. However, justifying stories of events described becomes a matter of speculation. |
