Spanglish is not a pidgin. Spanglish is just a type of code switching and/or calquing that occurs in bilingual communities/areas where English and Spanish are used daily. A pidgin is when two groups who don't understand each others language create a common language to facilitate communication. Those who use Spanglish are usually (not always) bilinguals who are fluent in Spanish and English. |
