COMMENTARY

Bill Moyle (NSW AUSTRALIA)
8th December 2008
I recently switched from a petrol (I mean gasoline) to a diesel car, for reasons of fuel economy and lower emissions of carbon.

Since then, price of diesel has moved unfavourably relative to petrol. It appears the main component in the relative pricing of fuel oils at the pump is a charge per gallon of USD 0.10 cents per gallon for petrol and USD 0.50 for diesel. Petrol prices have declined during the past 12 months by about 40%, that for diesel by much lesss, about 26%. (Source;US Energy Information Agency).

I know the complex factors that affect fuel pricing but wonder about the justification for theses recent changes in relative (ie gasoline vs diesel) prices and refining costs can be simply explained.
