In the Viet Nam section is states that the Marine presence was withdrawn in 1971 and returned briefly in 1975 for the evacuation of Saigon. I believe the presence was withdrawn in 1969 or 1970. I was with the First Marine Air Wing in April of 1972 when we returned to DaNang and the Air Force people said that we were the first Marines that they had seen in over a year. We were there for three or four months, then most of us were deployed to Nam Phong, Thailand. We flew our missions from there, although we still had "turn-around" crews at DaNang for another year or so. Don't mean to pick nits, just want to keep things historically correct. |
