I'm not exactly sure where you got some of this information but it looks like Wikipedia. Actual population in 2000 was 6,853 (Check US Census to confirm). Also, at one time, late 50s through the 1960s, there was some "Klan" activity in the area (ask the archivist at the Kenosha History Museum to get that info for you). This was also true of Sommers, WI, Antioc, IL, Zion, IL, and Waukegan, IL. We do still have some who cling to that mentality but they're old-timers who are uneducated and are pretty much laughed at or ignored. Many of our past residents were from Redbay,AL Tishmingo, and Tupelo,MS. They came here by the truck-loads to work in the factories in the area. Many of them arrived penniless and with no shoes (you can confirm that with the Waukegan Historical Society). Please check your sources before you post info. Thanks. |
