I don't think that it is years. The US has had about 1,500 executions as per Amnesty Intl |

I think they should execute anyone who does a crime they cannot under such as raping women or children. When we lived in NY someone asked my husband and I to sign a petition that would allow for the execution of males only stating that since males commit 90% of the violent crime and that often capital punishment is not used to keep from executing a woman, if it was the law that only males would be executed, they would opt for this much more often. My husband signed it immediately saying he thought it was an excellent idea and he reminded me that when women kill males, it is most often in self defense to protect them or their children. I signed it too and the man and woman who asked us to sign it said they would use my husband's statements to support this idea to execute males, Also already well over 90% of those executed are males anyway so why not? (Even though I do think even more males would be executed but since they are doing the crime that is fine with me.) |

These are dates. 1967 was the year the last person was executed in Australia. It makes less sense when redirected off the countries page and just glancing at the figures by coming here and scrutinizing the chart, which I think is probably cause for some of the misunderstanding. |

NationMaster needs to reevaluate these nonsensical stats. |
Andrew green 12th March 2010 |
Has to be the date of the last execution -Which was 1964 in the case of Britain the last crimes for which you could be sentenced to be executed were changed in 1998 |

This is a complete farce. |

1,995 . . 1,962 . . these clearly are not excecution stats. They look more like years ie: 1962 could very well be the year of last execution in Canada. - kjp |

Agree with the canadian comment. It is hilarious this stats, made me laugh as for example in Colombia there is not death penalty at all. |
Dark Master 20th July 2009 |
Completly stupid...
Canada abolished death penalty since a very long time |

You better correct your stats here,or even better delete this page, because they're so wrong that it makes the whole website look inaccurate.. |

I totally agree, John - this is absolutely useless. Denmark's last execution was in the late 1800s for crying out loud. Anybody able to tell me how they are 25th and the US isn't even on the board? |
John (UK) 18th June 2008 |
Totally meaningless stats. For example UK abolished death penalty about 50 years ago! |

i think it does mean the year it concluded otherwise the facts don't make any sense...and i should know as we had to study the death penalty in America for our welsh baccalaureate (for people who do not know what this is it is another qualification equal to an a-level)studies (ps: i go to a school in wales and that is why it is the welsh baccalaureate and not the European baccalaureate |
