FACTOID # 12: In pure number terms, more crimes are committed in America than in any other nation. The same goes for burglaries, car thefts, rapes and assaults.

Kathy,

what do you think should happen to a women who kills a man in cold blood?

In regards to Kathy's comments -

This is exactly why I have reservations about equal rights. Some women get so full of themselves and think they are better than men.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe in equal rights, but frankly when I hear a women spouting this kind of stuff, it is the only time I actually feel like hitting her.
I hope you can see the irony in that. It's that attitude of yours that will make a man get violent on you at some point.

Yes the world's richest people are males but honestly, when it all comes down to the core of it, everyone is just human, no real distinction between male and female. We are all vulnerable to everyday temptations in this world. No one is infallable. That's just it.

what is wrong with you people. Why are some of you (like Kathy) so sexist? I have never seen anyone more sexist in my life. And I have seen some very sexist people in my life. Who says females are the superior gender? Just because they have performed the least violent crimes as you say? This is only because they have conformed to the expectations of other women and men (the general society) that a women should be kind, polite and not violent, and in contrast men weren't expected to do that. So don't say females are more superior, because there is no one who is more 'superior' than another, regardless of gender, race or religion. All men, including women, are created equal in the eyes of God, and therefor it should be in our eyes too. As for your assumption that countries with female presidents or leaders tend to be strong global powers. Lets take into consideration America. They are the strongest power in modern history, no denying it. Yet they haven't had one female leader yet. I suggest you abandon this short sighted mind of yours. Also you said that the victim of a crime should have the right to decide the fate of the guilty person . obviously the victim (or most of them) would want revenge for the criminal, so almost always the criminal would be executed. It is not for the victim or any other person but the government to decide the rightful solution for these people. This decision should be made to make sure the society is made safe, and the victims are not exposed to further danger. Criminals are put in jail to make sure they change, killing them will destroy any hope of them being transformed into a respectful, human. This brings me to my next point. Some of you contend that the criminal should be tortured until they beg for death. Shame on you! That is the worst view a human being could have. I suggest you, and the rest of those unreasonable people, to get a brain. How could you find pleasure in the pain of others? Even if they have killed a love one. I may not know how it feels to lose a loved one by a murderer, but i sure have the heart to know they shouldn't be killed. If you kill them, then you are just as bad as them, or even worse. Shame on any of you who think the death penalty be handed out with such triviality. Do you even value human life? And why is a mans life worth less than a woman's? Please don't say comments out of ignorance. It makes you look unreasonable and your point of view look bad.

Kathy,

"Is there any wonder we know women are the superior gender?"

is that why new zealand is such a strong global power, because it is run by a female?

and why are the majority of the top wealthiest people, most powerful people in the world, Males?

doesn't matter if your male or female. Equal rights deserve equal sentences. Murder IS murder! No matter WHAT! I believe the convicted should get 1 appeal.... We should do away with "Life in prison" for the Serious offenders, and we should make prisons a Punishment.... Not some plea where you get FREE Medical on the Taxpayers Dime! On a side note, if your a woman STAY OUT OF THAILAND!! Lol

You are right, When I said violent crime is by males, I would say that yes it is best to kill them before they turn to harming women or children I did not mean before they killed somebody. If a male kills a male, he should pay with his life but if a male kills a woman, there should be no doubt of it. Also, a woman should have the right to kill any male who is atempting to do serious harm to her or her children. I know this may reduce the male poplation but as far as I am concerned, it is better they are male than if they were women.

Some of the comments here seem highly misguided. I realise that they are likely just trolls; however, because there are people who actually believe in such extreme feminism, I thought I should state my arguments regardless.

Firstly, the propensity to violent crime is not gender dependent, it is gender role dependent. In other words, it is not the fact that men are men, but that men act like men. The reason that women, in general, are more likely to be manipulative is the same.

The reasons for this are simple; in most modern cultures, men are taught from the moment they are aware of their gender, around 2-3 years of age, that they need to be confrontational. They need to be the protector of the house, who can fix things, who is strong and burly, who can fight to protect his family, who is the macho man. Similarly, women are taught to be docile, to cook and clean, to take care of the children, to be considerate to others. Children are taught this through television, where characters conform to this gender role.

They are taught this through other children, by playing 'house' and otherwise socializing. They are taught this by commercials (excessively). They are taught this by their parents and how they act together. Children are very sensitive to these things because their brains are going through stages of excessive intellectual development.

Secondly, if women want equal rights, they need to take responsibility for them. Please consider looking into the debate on neo-feminism and female supremecy. I'm all for equal rights, however, you can not expect excessive, gender dependent, concessions at the same time. Split on your date's dinner, don't expect a red carpet, enjoy sex as much as your partner and engage in it on a mutually agreeable schedule (ie, sex is not a gift or an item for sale), don't expect equal pay unless you have the same drive, skill, and experience as your male coworker, and so on. You may only expect anything else in times of ordeal, when sympathies are necessary for coping, and this is far from gender dependent because you will be required to give the same support to your partner. Whether that ordeal is something gender specific, such as pregnancy, or gender independent, such as the death of a loved one.

Kathy, your comments are so short sighted. Any human who seriosly harms or intentionally kills another human being should be executed but all should be treated neutrally until proven guilty by an unbias set of peers.

Where is your sense of justice.

It is notable that most of the countries in this list have 'dodgy' civil rights records. They are not necessarily linked but the death penalty does not seem to go with having a peaceful, democratic society.

If the biggest argument for a person deserving the death penalty is that the victim deserves some form of retribution, then I think it should be the victims responsibility to kill them. If the victim can look the accused in the eyes and still "drop the axe", then I suppose they did have enough anger to justify it. I think it's wrong (and at times unfair to the victim) to have someone else do it.

6th June 2010 Yes, the best way to help them is to kill them. It is the least expensive and most reliable way.

Since almost all violent crime is by males, I would say that yes it is best to kill them before they turn to harming women or children. If they want to kill other males fine but leave women and children alone. If you do not know who committed a violent crime, you will always be safe to look for someone with testicles to find who did it.

Is there any wonder we know women are the superior gender?

@ mark . mt shasta high, CA "how would you feel if you had a little 6 year old girl and she got raped and killed by a man"

In the last two months, I have seen news stories of at least 4 girls all under 9 being gang raped by 4 to 7 males. Some of the males were 15 but most were adults. If there is solid prove that the males did rape or molest these girls, I do not care if they are 15, if they are old enough to "get it up" and use it like this. If they did this in public, I bet a lot of other males would elect to "keep theirs" in their pants.

The people that do the worst evils are the sickest and needing the most help. To kill them says that we as humans haven't learned anything yet

I feel the death penalty is wrong, instead they should just torture the offending person until he begs for death then torture him some more, but not take his life because that is wrong.

Brad, are you serious. the death penalty is definetaly the right thing to do to certain people. most people who get the penalty deserve it if not more than death! how would you feel if you had a little 6 year old girl and she got raped and killed by a man! how would you feel i know i would want morwe than the death penalty. i would probably not want him to get the penalty i would want to do it myself.

I think that the death penalty is just down right wrong and they should stop it all together or at least make it more easy on the victim and abolish all the cruel and unusal ways they execute people.

It would be interesting to see this table by gender. It would also be interesting to see the crime for which they are executed as I know that in many of these countries, they execute women for minor crimes while they let males go for the same thing. Since males commit most of the crimes it would only be fair that it would be mostly males who are executed for these crimes.

The figure for China is presumably based on official figures. It vastly understates the true number. I'd multiply that by 20 to get a more accurate idea (and even then it's probably at the low end of the range)

They don't seem to have much on crime rates in Cuba. Cuba is not entirely open on things, especially anything that could make them look bad. Looking around the Net I find: In 1988, there were 6,531 cases of theft recorded by police investigators for a rate of 62 per 100,000 population. That's all I could find except mention of the drug trade, but no specific stats.
