This is worthless, it has no units, no logic, and no explanation. Thanks.

Duh, they're all vampires in Romania and live forever, so 37000 year sentences are no biggie.

Thank you, Ian Graham for your statistics which whilst interesting, no one requested. Why don't you actually explain as staff editor what on earth are the units of this currently meaningless data as everyone else has actually wants to know

Colombia has the longest average prison sentence length, at 137 years.

Read what the editor says, he says that the prison sentence is 137 years for columbia which is reflected in the chart. Also Canada would have an average of one day is prison.

I find it hard to believe that the average prison sentence in years is 37,488 in Romania.

I went back and looked at the questionnaire. The sentence lengths requested by crime type were im MONTHs not years. The numbers at the NationMaster website are meaningless until the data were weighted by crime time. I could not tell if they were or not.

The countries with sentence lengths of more than 1,000 might have a lot of consecutive life sentences, but more than likely the questionnaire questions were mis-understood.

Unforunately this chart does not tell us much yet.

I don't understand, HOW did you find 93 years for Moldova?

The maximum sentence in Moldova is 25 years. A few cases - life sentence(I repeat - only 10-20 cases).

So, HOW did you find 93 years?

what is this measuring?
how did czech republic come in so high when anything over 10 years is cruel and unusual there? serial killers get 15 years max

How do you measure a life sentence? Estonia is 8-th with 55-year long sentences, although longest sentence in years given is about 20 years. Then there is the life sentence, but how do you measure it in years?
