Isn't socialized health care supposed to be wayy cheaper than the current American health care program?

I just finished comparing the US and France in several health categories. Strangely, except for the amount of money spent on health care and the percentage of life spent in ill health, France led in all the categories, including considerably higher rates of alcohol and tobacco consumptions. It would, of course, be ridiculous to conclude from this that the French medical system is responsible for this, but perhaps the overall French way of life is far healthier than the American.
