I have been smoking since I was 15 years old and I am now 61 and have never been sick from cigarettes and the anti-smoking law in this place Trinidad and Tobago has successfully dislocated me from all the bars and clubs where my social life exists and that is nothing but an injustice. |

My whole family has died from smokerelated diseases. Nobody got much older than 50 y.o. And who really wants to become 100 years anyway. It's not enough jobs and resources for all of us. In my mind it makes perfect sense to wanna commit a slow suicide. The world's not that great anyway. But I really think cigaretterelated diseases should not be treated by any public funded health service. If you are as suicidal as me, you should have the decency to die without costing others lots of money. |

I don't know what is these numbers are!? Percentage of adult? ... I doubt even so, cause in my country I hardly can find a non-smoker and the number here is 18 !? is there anyway I can understand these numbers? |

Yes! Now we need to quit driving cars b/c they kill, maim, mutilate more people than anything. Also we need to get rid of McDonalds and Taco Bell and Wendy’s, or just outlaw fat people, b/c being fat is also one of the leading causes of health problems leading to, you guessed it, DEATH. Actally being alive guarantees that someday you will die. The government should totally regulate being alive too. Did you know that or do you need the government to pay some billions of taxpayer’s dollars for a few of those nice full color illustrated posters and commercials? |

I would like to have my name removed from the commonwealth brands mailing list. I do not smoke and the coupons are going in the trash. Thank you |

It's hardly to believe that the USA isn't in that statistics as there are a lot of states with high smoking rates. So, I would like to know on what basis this statistics has been made. |
Paul 18th July 2010 |
Despite what is written, I take this to be percent (%) of adult population that smokes, right? |
Sara Cruddit 25th April 2010 |
So if smoking is so bad for everyone and the biggest killer of people in the world, why is it still legal to buy it? |
Poso 8th April 2010 |

This is totally nonsense, and im a living proof, i lived in Nepal for a couple of years, the percentage of smokers is ridiculous compared with Portugal, generally only the youth has that habit, so tell me how can Nepal have double the smokers of Portugal??
this makes these kind of rankings loosing total credit, because the number of smokers in Portugal is incredibly and uncomparably superior than in Nepal, and this numbers are not just unreal but couldnt be more far from realitty, i would say Portugal has much more than double of smokers, has more than triple, nepalese even usted to say "all tourists smoke!", bcuz they dont have that habit.
SO what should i think about all these rankings?... |

is this by the millions, or thousands, or what, because first of all, you cant have .6 of a person, and it kind of doesent make sense to me |

Edward 11th April 2007 |
How do you read this chart? Is it percentage, millions, what? |
John (Indonesia) 10th June 2006 |
There's no data for Indonesia, but it's estimated that about 70% of the adult male population smoke, and I would guess that is accurate. Cigarettes that have added cloves are very popular here. |
Tom (USA) 10th June 2006 |
Australia is there, at 93. It seems USA is gone, though.. could that be #5? |
Dr Beketha (AUSTRALIA!) 4th June 2006 |
I'm noticing that there's no number 5 on the list, as someone else mentioned earlier. I am wondering why this is, and if the missing country is indeed, Australia. Because I cannot find Australia on the list. But, maybe it is on there, but due to the unalphabetically listed countries, I am missing it? Either way, it would be a whole lot easier to locate certain countries if the list was in alphabetical order.
Thank you. |

I honestly think that smoking can relese stress but it causes a greater stress with all of it's bad side effects. |
Pere 24th December 2005 |
I can't say that tobacco is good for health, but please compare the life expectancy of birth in different countries with total adult smokers: there is not any relation, and a lot of the countries with greater life expectancy are too countries with a lot of smokers: see Andorra, Japan, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy,...
You can tell that there are other health factors with more impact in life expectancy, but... why is the HWO fighting against tobacco and not against Mc Donalds, pollution or car drivers? |
Tanuki 25th September 2005 |
Since moving from Australia to Japan, where almost 50% of adult males smoke, the way I view smokers has changed. I used to see them as unfortunate. Now I see them as suicidal drug-addicts. |
lizzie 1st July 2005 |
i have never smoked in my life
and just by looking at this page and the different charts on people smoking in different countries is appauling
all of you out there should be ashamed of yourself
and all of you who do moke out there should stop before you want to kill your self with cancer
the reason im saying this is because my grandad smoked and died 2 years ago with lung cancer.
so please all of you out there just please stop smoking and get your life back how you wnat it. |
James 5th May 2005 |
Ahh. I see that the fifth most smoker-filled country is invisible. :D |
liz 17th November 2004 |
it would be easier if you would list in alphabetical order because its hard to find a certain country |
