As an Australian, I can tell you, it's very much a part of the expectation here, especially in white collar work or when it's big business competing. The expectations are in the contracts. No one likes it, but too many morons are in power who do not think of health holistically, only profits.

In response to Rohit Rawat, I moved from America to Korea to teach ESL for a few years. I agree that Koreans work more than Americans, but as far as I can see, there is actually less of a return on their investment because of the vast inefficiencies in how they work. If they streamlined their lives, I think they could actually get more done in less time.
I've heard the largest complaint from Americans in Japan is that they drag on what could be done in 8 hours into 12 hours.
Still, I admire them both for their incredible work habits...its amazing. |

I work an 70 hour week. I don't believe that UK people only work 1673 hours. Are you sure that we are that lazy ? |
