"Prohibition... goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control mans' appetite through legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not even crimes... A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our Government was founded." - Abraham Lincoln |

There are no recorded deaths that are directly attributed to cannabis use, you can't find one...
I've heard newspapers and people say that it "may be" linked to psychosis, but have never read a medical journal that proves this...
Cannabis is not for everyone, it may make some people uncomfortable and paranoid, but those people choose not to do it if they don't like the effects, and the effects are not lasting, it is less addictive than coffee, it doesn't kill your brain cells, some studdies have "suggested" that it may stimulate brain cell growth.
It's an excellent anti-depressant and increases ones appetite. It's plain to see that the legal drug called alcohol causes more damage than cannabis, I've never heard a story of someoen getting so stoned that they beat their wife and kids...
Think for yourself tbh.. read books! |

Whahaha, what problems does weed cause? You know that? Using it too mutch can cause paranoia, but that's only for the chemical crap. No actually weed is a great medicine. It is never actually proven that weed killed a person, alchohol did and that is legal. And what is the problem if some people want to relax, don't be too conservative about this. |
HADJRAH IQBAL 10th November 2010 |
I think that cannabis should only be legalised in hospitals, for the people who suffer from diseases such as cancer and MS sufferers. It is basically death in the form of a plant. My cousin and step dad smoke weed and it stinks. It not only makes you smell but it make your teeth yellow, you get bad spots and overall, no one wants to be near you. All you cannabis users out there, you need ot get a life. Your wasting your money on crap when you could use it to buy something worthwhile. You might as well flush your money down the toilet. All you that want to make money by killing others, THEN TAKE SOME YOURSELF AND TOP YOURSELF! |

In response to "OJ THE JUICE MAN", you're right Drugs do in fact make you a living dead man. All these people in hospitals with IV's pumping pain numbing medicines in to their blood are the perfect example how drugs do this. And what about all these people legally on prescription drugs? Ruining their livers and walking around like zombies. It's sickening to see all these man made drugs pushed on us by Governments of the world when science has proved over and over that we have natural solutions to save our selfs from this perversion in society. And every one knows people that smoke cannabis must be dirty, I mean it's a stereotype, it has to be true. I smoke a little cannabis every night before I go to bed, so I can get a good night sleep. When I wake up, I eat breakfest then go to work and after a long day I come home and take a good shower. I do this daily, but no matter how many times I shower I just can't get clean. The cannabis makes me a dirty person =P |

How is Canada so low? We are so happy here! And generally tolerant. Also, violent crimes are NOT done by people on a happy high. Moderate use, as with everything else, does not cause problems. Also, the province with the highest use is the healthiest! Imagine that. |

Cannabis is a blessing of the Heavens.
The researches that concluded correlation b/n Cannabis usage & mental disorders are those funded by the tobacco industry, those containing experiment groups who had disorders prior to start using Cannabis & those done to pervert the truth about this magnificent plant for various reasons.
I personally believe that smoking Cannabis is highly beneficial in every aspect of one's life IF USED PROPERLY(not as a hideout from reality) |
Hello (U.S.) 8th February 2009 |
"New Zealand Tops on Cannabis Use, Youth Suicide Rates, Teenage pregnancy, Property Crime Victims, Rape Victims."
That's just a correlation and doesn't prove anything. Just because cannabis use is high doesn't mean it's directly responsible for those other statistics. There are so many variables that come into play and it's impossible to just point the finger at one issue.
Also cannabis does help with asthma. It has a bronchodilator effect, and relaxes the airway and makes breathing easier. |
Tara (USA) 30th October 2008 |
How is Jamaica NOT top of the list??! Spent a year there and never once smoked a joint, but I didn't have too-you get high from everyone around you smokin it all the time and the only people that get busted are tourists (that is if you decide not to bribe the officers) |

Pinky (New Zealand) 19th June 2008 |
NZ is a pretty laid-back place if you ask me. I wonder why?
As for the suicide statistics...Correlation does not suggest causation. Suicide rates are high in scandinavian countries, that like NZ, have a well-educated population and bleak, dark winters. NZ culture is also very stoic and almost victorian in the repression of emotions, despite efforts to change this young people tend to hide their depression rather than seek help.
Finally, NZ's marajiana use should be considered in context. As well as being geographically isolated, very tight border security is maintained for biodiversity reasons. This results in a very limited range of drugs...while a young drug user in America can easily obtain pot, cocaine, and Oxy or black tar, the same demographic in NZ is limited to pot. It is the cheap and easy everyman's drug, like the Soma of Brave New World it is used for everything from stimulation to relaxation. |

canabaloids - medic definition definitly bring on mental heath issues. like smokeing heath issues, correct some people would never develop cancer even if they smoked 100 cigerates a day, as they are not suceptable, these people are but a few.
people who smoke joints / canabis etc are dicing with mental heath issues, i smoked a massive joint only twice on 2 seperta occations and it messed with my head.
stats are black people are even more vunerable to this - in life you dont get anything for nothing!!! |
FISHBITE (USA) 25th June 2007 |
I read "Cannabis continues to account for the vast majority of illegal drug use and is consumed by some 160 million people world wide" a UN drug report..
So back in the 70's when the US governemnt told the US people that Cannabis was bad and caused mental illness, birth defects and was evil is all proven wrong..Just like a lot of other stuff the government told the AMerican people..
So why is Cannabis still illegal in the US? Because of the flipin UN! |

U.S. Presidents should be required to smoke pot and eat acid at least once a year. The uptight power hungry set must be subdued or else we'll never get out of this cycle of imperialist violence.
Besides, there is much evidence to show that civilization itself would not exist if not for the discovery of naturally occuring hallucinogens in the fertile crescent (modern day Egypt, Israel, West Bank, Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey). Before cities like Jericho, some 65,000 years ago, man lived as nomads with no reason to settle in one spot but with the discovery of magic mushrooms they were given a powerful reason to stay put. It is also believed that the writers of the bible (or the men who channeled God if you prefer) were heavy into shroomin' and gave them the visions that lent them there mystical air. Grain fermentation was also discovered at this time and the production alcohol was born. Drugs are necessary for civilization and vice versa. |
Chester (New Zealand) 28th October 2006 |
Hi there i'd just to like to say how harmless cannabis is to people compared to other drugs that are out there.
Its not the cannabis we have to worry about, its the A class Amthetamines and other such harmful drugs also cheap drugs like inhalants people are using and alcohol we need to sort out.
There is no way i think it should be legalized in New Zealand i even think there would be far less consumers if that was to happen.
Thanks for reading my comment and i have far more reasons why Cannabis shouldnt be illegal but i think most of them are obvious. |
Marto (Bulgaria) 18th June 2006 |
I use marijuana 1-2 times a month and I am very happy with it. Most of the people think that it`s something like heroin or cocaine... but it`s less harmful and I can say that it`s nice to use marijuana in small amount.
Everything is dangerous if you take it very often. The people that have not used mj can`t say clearly what is right and what is wrong.
The cannabis makes the nerve-system and the brain works more faster and more effective. A man on high often is a man with concious. He acts like a normal if he like. |
Adam (Canada) 7th June 2006 |
Cannabis is one of the less harmful intoxicants around, both physically and societally. It does have proven medical benefits, mainly around nausia relief and appetite stimulations (medical munchies), but also as treatment for glaucoma and other conditions as mentioned above (although I am curious how smoking something helps your asthma).
People who are intoxicated by the effects of Cannabis are FAR, FAR less societally harmful than those under the influence of alcohol, and I don't even need any evidence to back that. Most people will tell you this is true from their own experience. Pot smokers are just not dangerous people... unless, of course, they have also ingested alcohol.
Incidentally, the same sense of bravado that can lead to violence under the influence of alcohol is not present with marijuana: Tests have consistantly displayed that while cannabis- and alcohol- intoxicated drivers lack the reflexes of a fully sober individual, the pot smokers tended to be mindful of their incapacitation, and drove on average more cautiously than normal, which resulted in them generally matching and occasionally outdoing the sober drivers. The drunk drivers, on the other hand, were convinced that they were fully capable of driving normally and consequently scored significantly lower than the other groups.
In response to sash, most of that post was simply a recitation the laws against cannabis, and the associated penalties, which in itself provides no particular evidence whatsoever.
In an ideal world, nobody would have the desire to get high at all. However, with cannabis use already a prevalant part of most western societies, this approach can be considered naive and idealistic... and, in the case of countries in which alcohol is also legal, downright hypocritical. |
Rambot 17th January 2006 |
Educating, if not completely misleading.
Cannabis DOES affect your driving, but so does caffeine and nicotine and lack of sleep. Cannabis has been SHOWN to make drivers MORE cautious.
"The Safety hazards of smoking marijuana and driving are overrated"
-Allison Smiley. Health Effects of Cannabis. March 1999
The following have been PROVEN (or are unofficially considered acceptable) uses for Cannabis:
Asthma; Glaucoma; Tumors (Medical College of Virginia report, 1975); (possibly) Emphasyma; Nausea Relief from various diseases and treatments; Epilepsy; Arthritis; Cystic Fibrosis; Rheumatism; Stress; Migraine Relief; BENEFICIAL as an anti-depressant.

My extended family all live in Holland not one of them has ever even come close to touching a joint. They all firmly believe that legalization has eased usage among countrymen.

I suggest that all of you further educate yourselves along the lines of organisations such as NORML, the Hemp Industries Association, and Jack Herer's website electricemperor, plus safeaccessnow.org. Pot smokers are your teachers, lawyers, doctors, politicians, sisters, nephews, etc. This is the most widely used illicit drug in the world with a ten thousand plus history on the planet. And no, it's NOT legal in the Netherlands (and certainly not Belgium), it's TOLERATED. Illegal to grow indoors, illegal to sell to coffeeshops, but okay to grow 3 per person or 5 per household, outside, where it came from! The UK has deCLASSIFIED and Canada tried to deCRIMINALISE, but until the United Nations changes its blanket drugs mandate, CANNABIS IS ILLEGAL AND MISUNDERSTOOD ACROSS THE ENTIRE WORLD. In 2004 in the US, cannabis arrests topped the combined total of ALL arrests for ALL violent crimes- agravated assault, murder, forcible rape, etc. There are over 40,000 industrial uses for hemp (non-psychoavtice sister plant) and over 400 therapeutic administrations for cannabis. In over 10,000 years of use across all cultures and aspects of life, NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON HAS DIED AS A RESULT OF CANNABIS. And BTW, "marijuana" is a northern Mexican colloquialism for cannabis, and has its roots steeped in racism. Check out William Randolph Hearst's association with the prohibition of cannabis in America. The drug was criminalised due to politics, not ill health effects. |
Kiwi 1st November 2005 |
I'd like to point out that New Zealand's property crimes, teenage pregnancy and rape victims statistics are to be blamed on our binge drinking culture. We drink to get drunk, when we're drunk we do stupid stuff. |
New Zealander 1st November 2005 |
New Zealand is top in a hell of a lot of education fields. Why not link them to cannabis use?
That would be just as naive and biased as linking our negative statistics to cannabis use (oh, but no - cannabis is evil, it MUST be the cause!).
Don't be daft. |
Phreakish 12th October 2005 |
"Cannabis use has been linked to learning disorders, aggravation of psychiatric problems and cancer." These remarks are stated by someone whom cant see straight and that focus on old facts and myths rather then focusing on new facts. There is no link between learning disorder and cannabis. It has been stated that under usage and the influence of cannabis substances it is far more harder to learn or understand, however after a few hours this goes away and no cognitive functions are disturbed nor is there any problem of learning.
Also I cant see how "amphetamines, alcohol (spirits, beer, wine) and tobacco" is of any interest speaking about cannabis. Even WHO confirms and say that Cannabis has been misjudged and arent as dangerious as been claimed. Cannabis is a drug. So is most of the flowers in your garden. Go out and explore. I believe Cannabis would be the only one that would keep u from crashing your body doing so. I could take up facts on facts but since small narrow minded people get stuck into one prehistorical scene of what Cannabis are that would be using my strength were it couldnt do any use.

I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A COUNTRY LIKE THE NETHERLANDS WHERE SMOKING CANNABIS IS LEGALISED IN SOME PARTS, WOULD BE A LOT HIGHER IN THE RANKINGS. WHAT DOES THIS SAY FOR AUSTRALIA? IF THE SMOKING OF CANNABIS WAS LEGALISED IN AUSTRALIA DO YOU THINK THE USE WOULD FALL? |
