How come does 2006 religion statistics table contain much less countries than year 2008?
Jake (California)

These statistics are wrong, United States most current estimate of people with no religion is 16%, not 10%, according to US Census. Not a reliable source, seems like they are inflating the numbers for religions across the board, in other countries as well.

Why would this site do this?

I believe that the Roman Catholic and Protestant religion statistics are somewhat backward in regard to Canada.

A lot of people in Western Europe are still members of a church even their grandparents did not attend anymore. The statistics are inflated. I find it rather hard to believe more than half the people in Western Europe are religious.

2005-03-26 20:35:06 Iran is the only non-Sunni Muslim country in the world.

My dear brother and friend Iran has lots of Sunni Muslims in the south they have the Arab Sunni's and in the north west they have Azeri Sunni's and by the way we are brothers no-matter what they say , hope one day they will realize they were wrong and again a new era for them-"be what they really are" MUSLIMs in Islam

I am looking for statistics on women in leadership roles in world religions. I don't expect much but I know there are some!

To anonymous:Eastern Orthodox is not considered Catholic in the USA but there is Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, and many others. Many Orthodox people in the U.S will settle for Catholicism if they cannot find an Orthodox community.

Finfacts needs (in the least!) to post an asterisk with the religion information from a country like communist China. It is known that religion is illegal there, thus we cannot really know that these numbers represent the peoples' beliefs. Finfacts tells that 1% to 2% of the Chinese are Taoist, but this cannot be adjuged veritable until the peoples' real thoughts and beliefs are known. How many liberal democrats will be counted in Stalin's Russia? Zero. This is because he was in the habit of killing anyone who was even suspected of Possibly opposing the communist system. Please place an asterisk with an explanation. It makes the site more credible.

I'm looking for the religious breakdown in the UK. I found from it's profile that the main religion is Christianity, but I really need percentages like I have seen for other groups here. If there is any way to break it down further into regions, that would be swell also, but I'd settle for just the entire UK.

I just wanted to point out a problem with your graph, You have Mormons listed under Protestant and in Tonga you have it under Free Wesleyan Church and just plain Christian. Over half of the population considers themselves Mormons or LDS for short. Mormons are not Protestant, they are not a break away from that church either. It is a category in it self, like Catholic or Protestant. Thought you might like to know.
