semih, here is mentioned only passenger car not all the registered vehicles. But 67 is still low. I think Turkey has about 120 Vehicle per 1000 citizen.

According to Statistics Institute of Turkey(TUIK) there are 15 million vehicles registered in Turkey in the end of 2010. We also know that the population of the country is around 70-80 million. So the Turkey's ratio should be around 0.200 but it is marked 67 mv per 1000 p=0.067. I don't
think the table is completely accurate. There may be other mistakes.

Germany is not included....
so the correlation between ecological footprint and motor vehicles per person cannot be made, or is probably higher than the 82% which are estimated here, because Germany has a population of an amount at ranking place 16 of the world, and about 573,03 per 1000people.

Table is not accurate. Is it out of 100 or 1000 people? What year is it for? And the last time I saw on TV the capital of Afghanistan was packed with cars with American soldiers moving around them acting as traffic police while this table says there are 0 vehicles in that country.

I second the comment asking if this is not per 1000 rather than per 100 people. Just do the gut check... it would mean about 7.5 cars per person in the US if this was right, but about three-quarters of a car per person in the US. Considering that driving age is 16 to 17 years of age in the US, less than one car per person makes more sense than over 7.

but I can´t find anything on the website of the CIA (factbook). Thanks for helping...
Site editor should fix the 100p notation
2nd June 2009
I agree with Micah Stairs' comment. It is incredibly confusing and misleading to most readers to use the notation "100p" to represent "1000 persons."

Most visitors to this site will not click on the tiny "definitions" button to find that out. Others will dismiss the data as ridiculous, thinking, "How can there be 765 vehicles per 100 people in the U.S.?"

I don't know if this notation is an error or some obscure statistics convention, but it is unfortunate.

Why would they put "100p" to represent "1000 people". They should at least put "1000p" with the additional zero. And yeah, the definition needs to be worked on to explain these statistics a little better.

I see DEFINITION is Motor Vehicles per 1000 people

What is 100 p

US have 765 MV for 100 people?
or
US have 765 MV for 1000 people?
or
US have 765 MV for 100,000 people?

Your info is not clear to me, or the people I work with.

kcngfuk (Malaysia)

there must be a mistake in Malaysia, as state here in total there is 16 million vehicle. But a figure from Land trasportation department there only 13 million vehicle on land. Including car, lorry, bus, motorcycle, truck.
Ken (Minneapolis)

It shouldn't read 1000 people, 100 is correct, remember motorized vehicles includes a whole lot more than the collection of family cars and motorcycles in people's driveways, Americans. There are a whole lot of various business vehicles, freight vehicles, public transport vehicles, gov't vehicles, military vehicles, etc.

If it were vehicles per 1000 then the US would have fewer total vehicles than people, and there's no way on earth that's possible.
Howard Deutsch (Monroe Township, NJ (US))

If we can project ahead, in as little as five years the number of cars per 1,000 people in China and India will be significantly greater than today. Given The their population (China 3.3 billion and India 1.1 billion), the increase in the number of cars in the world will likely push gas prices well above current US prices of about $4.00/gallon in the US as of May, 2008. This can kill the US economy. For tips on how companies can go green, including reducing company and employee gas consumption, go to http://www.quantisoft.com/Articles/Green.htm.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/tra_mot_veh-transportation-motor-vehicles

Hi, I'm refering the the page located above. I would like to know the units you are using on the graph on this page.
I am particularly interested in the definition of 100 p in
for example on the first line:"765 motor vehicles per 100 p"
At the bottom you have a definition:Motor vehicles per 1000 people, so how does this relate to the 100 p units. I am also curious about the weighting factor you used in the "weighted average" was that just per person, or was there some other weighting factor not mentioned in the graph?
Thank you, and if you have an answer please reply here, or leave a message about how to recieve the answer.
Thanks, Trey
