Ortiz made his debut in the Primera División with Leon in the Invierno 1998, against Chivas. Ortiz Regularly played with Leon the next season, making 17 appearences and scoring 1 goal. Ortiz moved to Chivas for the Invierno 1999 tournament where he only made 4 appearences and played a total of 32 minutes. The following season he saw little success appearing a total of 3 times.
