The 10,000 Lakes Festival (abbreviated as "10KLF") is an annual three-day music festival in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, at the Soo Pass Ranch. The festival has been held since 2003. It's name refers to Minnesota's nickname, "The Land of 10,000 Lakes." The lineups generally include jam and bluegrass bands. Detroit Lakes is a city located in Becker County, Minnesota. ... The term jam band is commonly used to describe psychedelic rock-influenced bands whose concerts largely consist of bands reinterpreting their songs as springboards into extended improvisational pieces of music. ... Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music which has its own roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music. ...


The festival is held on over 600 acres (243 ha) and has four stages: Main, Field, Barn, and Saloon. (The stages are listed by size, beginning with the largest.) Campgrounds can be reserved and running water provides permanent restrooms and showers.


In 2006, over 18,000 people attended.[1]

Main

Headliners perform at the Main Stage. This stage accomodates the most room for listeners.


Field

As it's name suggests, the Field Stage is located in front of a field, allowing room for acts that attract large crowds.


Barn

The Barn Stage is located at the base of a hill and features a translucent canopy for shade.


Saloon

Acts that attract the smallest crowds are booked on a stage in a saloon, which stays open later than all other stages.

For four years, this festival, held at the Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, MN, has pulled out the stops to bring not only topnotch jambands but rock, world, jazz, and urban mix bands to the heartland.
Launching the festival on Wednesday evening, Chicago regional band Enchanted Ape blew away festival goers with the skills of their electric cello player and the crooning voice of their female backup singer.
Not only was all this stellar music presented, but the camping amenities at the 10,000 Lakes Festival would be the envy of many larger jam festivals.
