Moto Guzzi's 1000S "retro bike" was officially released for the 1990 season.
The 1000S (Mille S) is basically a Le Mans 1000 styled after the 750S of 1974 and the 750S3 of 1975.
The 1000S was the last of the classic Sport Guzzi's based on the V7 frame by Lino Tonti.
First Ride: 2004 MZ 1000S Vertical-Twin Motorcycle (1661 words)
The 1000S' engine is a relatively long-stroke design (bore and stroke are 96mm x 69mm), which helps deliver a useful amount of torque—a claimed 72.3 foot-pounds at 7500 rpm, alongside a claimed peak power of 114 horsepower at 9000 rpm.
The 1000S, on the other hand, is relatively flaccid from 3000 rpm up, but then takes off suddenly at that 6000-rpm power threshold, where there's a serious rush of strong power, enough to excite even the most demanding sportbike rider.
The MZ 1000S may have taken three years to reach the world's showrooms, but the time has been well spent, resulting in a genuinely attractive and perhaps unexpectedly good motorcycle, one that feels solid and well put together on the road.
