11th BOMBARDMENT WING (5928 words)
Established as the 11th Observation Group on 1 October 1933, it was redesignated 11th Bombardment Group (Medium) on 1 January, 1938.
One 11th Bomb Wing aircraft, B-36D-10 49-2051 of the 98th Bomb Squadron, was blown across the field and came to rest in a ravine a mile from the flightline.
For the next nine months the 11th, redesignated from the 11th Strategic Aerospace Wing on I April 1962, was changed to the 11th Air Refueling Wing and conducted air refueling operations until inactivated on 25 March 1969.
