The 13e arrondissement is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. It is located on the Left Bank. It is famous for hosting Paris's main Chinatown, which is located at the Southeast of the arrondissement in an area including numerous residential highrises. The city of Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements municipaux (“municipal boroughs,” approximately, in English), more simply referred to as arrondissements (pronounced ). The 13th arrondissement is still growing in population, and this mainly because of the massive arrival of Asian immigrants. At last census in 1999, the population was of 171,533 inhabitants. The 13th arrondissement is also rapidly growing in business activity thanks to the new business district of Paris Rive Gauche. In 1999, the arrondissement was already hosting 89,316 jobs, and many more today. bs. The land area of this arrondissement is exactly of 7.146 km² (2.759 sq. miles).
