Court music is performed by members of the NCMI for ceremonies at the Confucian Shrine and Royal Ancestor's Shrine, for national events, for tourists and the public.
The Royal Ancestor's Shrine music, a type of court ritual music established in the 15th century, is excluded from the narrow sense of aak, for it evolved long after in hyangak style.
As in the Confucian Shrine ritual, the music is accompanied by "civil" (munmu) and "military" (mumu) dances.
