The police officers' peacetime duties are the same as those of civilian police, namely to enforce the laws of the U.S. Military in the form of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and the regulations of their particular installation.
Some U.S. MP units, usually at the battalion or brigade level, are designated as combat, division or line MPs whose combat zone responsibilities include protection of vehicle routes, defile control, route reconnaissance and straggler control, the guidance or detention of soldiers who have become lost, separated from their units, or have fled the battlefield.
The standard weapons of the United States military police are the M9 9 mm magazine-fed semi-automatic pistol, the M4 rifle, and the 12 gauge shotgun.
16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne) (754 words)
The 16th Military Police Brigade is prepared to deploy anywhere in the world in order to provide combat military police support to the XVIII Airborne Corps for world-wide contingency missions.
The brigade dates back to the Vietnam conflict, when it was constituted on 23 March 1966 as the 16th Military Police Group.
The unit was subsequently reorganized and redesignated on 16 July 1981 as the 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne).
