1784: While ensconced in the Bastille, the Marquis de Sade pens "Les 120 Journees de Sodome" [120 Days of Sodom], although an authoritative edition was not in print until 1931.
This was the first of his books, considered later to have been a handgrenade of modernism, so far ahead of its time as to gurantee him a lifetime of persecution.
