Discoverer J. C. Watson, 1877


179 Klytaemnestra is a fairly large Main belt asteroid. It is probably composed of silicate rocks and metallic iron-nickel.


It was discovered by J. C. Watson on November 11, 1877. It was last of his total of 22 asteroid discoveries. It is named after Clytemnestra, the wife of Agamemnon in Greek mythology.
