Antiphonals are sheets of music used by monks to sing Gregorian Chants.
It is on a large piece of sheepskin, and has music on both sides.
Interesting engraved image from the Illustrated London News, titled "Musical Instruments in the South Kensington Museum." Almost all of them are stringed instruments, with the exception of several small flutes and a xylophone.
