| The work of science is the work of a community of people who, like all people, are taught to interpret reality in conformity with the views of the community to which they belong, sometimes regardless of objective evidence to the contrary. |
| When science applies its empirical tests to its theories, it is simply doing in its own way what philosophy, theology, practical human sense, and daily religion must all do, and that is find some way of sorting out wise ideas from foolish ones, coherent ideas from incoherent, accurate ones from inaccurate, on a continuing basis. |
