| Final Standings | | Length | 13 stages, 4545 km | | Overall | René Pottier | 31 points | | Second | Georges Passerieu | 39 | | Third | Louis Trousselier | 61 | The 1906 Tour de France was the 4th Tour de France, and second to use the point system. Taking place July 4 to July 29, 1906 the total race distance was 4545 km (2824 miles), with riders averaging 24.463 km/h. Like its predecessors, it still had cheating and sabotage taking place. Three players were disqualified for taking trains as a shortcut and spectators still got a good laugh by throwing nails in the road. However, this didn't stop René Pottier from obliterating the competition in the early rounds. Free of tendinitis that plagued his 1905 chances, he dominated the entire race. Unlike the previous year, the entrants were not all French, and a Belgian placed in the top 10.
