Frost knew that Weideman was the perfect singer for his unrecorded songs, and the ideal frontman for this new band.
In late 1989, as 1927 was in the process of commencing work on its new album, founder member and principal songwriter Garry Frost left the band.
By 1993, the band was in serious financial and artistic difficulties, and broke up with little fanfare.

It is easy to see why bands tended to be overlooked in their heyday, and why they have continued to be neglected ever since.
The problem of 'who rules' was to be a factor in the band's demise, because conflicts of interest and outlook between board and band were never far from the surface.
Tooth's Brewery Band was thus able to side-step the painful problems of raising funds and training players which newly established bands usually face, and it entered the contest field in January 1928 as a fully-fledged, completely-equipped Grade B band.
